Hello, I have a 67 273 and just got a 71 340. The bottom inlet on the water pump is on different sides of the water pump. I notice the 68-69 340 water pumps, are on the same side AS 273. Is there a bracket conv. etc., what should I do?

either swap the timing cover, water pump, pullies and brackets from the 273 on to the 340 or swap the radiator for a 70-71 340 unit.

if you ever want to upgrade to serpentene belts change the radiator to fit the 340. March only makes it for the 70 and up.

If you plan on keeping the stock components switching the front off the 273 would be the way to go.

Be careful what you swap because the balancers are indexed to the timing cover. But the 273 balancer should work with the 340 if you swap timing covers also because both engines are internally balanced.

The outlet location and related parts were a production change at the factory so parts have to be used as a "set".

Just take your radiator to a radiator shop and have them move the outlet to the other side. Less than $50 and a whole lot easier. This is what I did. Jeff

I'd check the two dampers. You may find that the 340 damper is thicker and heavier. If you do decide to swap the chain covers, make sure you verify accurately the TDC line onto the 340 damper, use a positive stop on cyl 1. I just went thru a stupid mess (of my own oversight) with my car where I had some issues with this item.
