I've always used a "standard"-LOL one bolt cam for all my previous buildups. I bought a 3 bolt cam from a board member and am curious if I need to install the cam/timing chain with a Torrington bearing? I saw on the summit catalog that there is a few t-chains for sale and the 3 bolts style come with the bearing. Any advise would be REALLY appreciated!!

No, you don't have to use the ones with the thrust bearing. If fact some builders won't use them for fear of the bearing coming apart and scattering hard steel pieces throughout the engine. I have yet to encounter that failure.

Thanks IQ!! I just was a bit confused why they were offered on the 3 bolt chain kits and not the 1 bolt ones.... I was wondering the same thing- more small parts that can come apart. I just read that the cam lobes are machined on the ends (tapered) to keep the cam in place.
