30 spline Axeles in a 8 3/4

how much abuse can 30 spline axeles take changing my ring and pinion to 4.30s has a 30 spline spool with factory axeles noticed the ends of the axele splines are starting to twist so im going to replace them with doctor diff axeles do i need to buy a 35 spline spool and 35 spline axeles hate to buy another spool . 2800lb Duster 600 hp give or take 3800 stall
 
well the fact you have a spool and a light car help... but still with 600hp i might be looking at 35's... im running the doc 30 axles and spool as well but im just nudging 300hp and 13's lol...
 
A fellow I know was running 9.60's in a Challenger with the 30 spline stuff, but aftermarket axles. The ring gear gave up the ghost, but the axles were fine.
 
I'm running Currie 30spline in a spooled 3.73 centre.
Best 60ft is 1.62
Car is 3500lb with 303hp at the treads.
Stripped a 741 crownwheel and pinion a year ago but the axles looked to be OK.
Car has now done 379 passes and sees it's share of street use as well.
 
I'm running stock axles. 4.30 gear and drag radials. The only thing i have
broke so far is a front U joint. Think it was a bad one to begin with. Even
though I got it from NAPA.
I run 13.0's to 12.90's.

I am useing moser(spelling) 30 spline axles,742 case,430 gears and spool in my 3500 pound 73 dodge dart. I have only ran a best 60 foot of 1.52-1.54 at 10.68 at 125 in the 1/4. i would like to up grade to a 35 spline spool. But when i break this 8-3/4 again i am going to a dana 60. if it matters my rearend is back braced.

35 splines are going to be stronger, you can easily sell the 30 spline spool...

I have been using Doctor Diff 30 spline axles in two cars, one is going on 5 yrs...the other is in it 2 season.

and one other car has 35 spline axles that have been in use since 1992....
 
35 spline will give peace of mind and last longer. Perhaps you can score a 35 spline spool for sale.

35 spline 8 3/4" and Dana 60 axles are the same thing, except for length requirements. The ring & pinions are the weak link in an 8 3/4" so the Dana 60 will be a huge improvement in that respect as well as having a much stronger housing.

I twisted Moser axels with 4.30 gear and spool behind my 3000lb car with about 525hp.60fts were 1.50.Now have a Dana 60 with 4.56 spool 35 spline axels,60fts are 1.44 looking for more.LOL

I thought those were Strange axles you twisted. That's actually common for them, they twist a little and then take a set.

I twisted the stock 30 spline axles in my 4 speed Duster, went to Moser 30 splines and have been using them ever since but I also switched to an automatic. I had those axles in the Duster running mid 10's for over 15 years. I had them shortened and resplined and they are still in use in the Scamp.
