hi guys, looking at building a 318 to start out with in my 71 Dart, just wanted oppinions etc,

Im on a tight budget here, because i don't make that much money to begin with and will have very little left to spend.

76 or 78 318 block
I hope to just be able to ball hone it and reuse all of the bottom end parts
Dont know the casting # of my heads but plan to reuse all of the valvetrain
Would like to run a single plane aluminum intake with a 650 or so cfm carb

What would be a decent camshaft for this build that i can work off of?
Any other cheap upgrades to suggest?

Find running motor, bolt in and go. Probably the most economical way if you are on a tight budget.

Cam wise, a stock replacement 340 cam works well in a 318 using stock heads and compression. Cheap too. Otherwise a Comp XE262 or so would be about the most I'd run.

I would avoid a single plane intake unless you already have one, and only then if its an old Holley Street Dominator. A regular Edelbrock Performer (eBay) would do much better. Carb wise a Holley 1850 or Eddy 1406 would fit the bill.

You say you're on a budget so the best thing is not to goo too nuts. If you can find one, get a Magnum motor and a carb intake.

i already have a mostly complete 318 block, so i was just hoping for a basic rebuild and go
