I get it now. I made the same mistake twice. I installed Superformance with 2.270 port and thinner gasket when I really needed Felpro 1243 2.08 port gasket.
Feeling pretty stupid right now.

When you drop in the right gaskets the clouds will part and a shaft of sunlight will fall directly on your engine (cue fanfare an angel choir in background) and I will bet all your problems will go away (at least having to to with this engine). From the sounds of the engine I bet it turns out to be fun!
