318 disassembly question

Is it necessary to drain the oil and/or coolant before removing the heads?
Is there anything else I should know before I go tear the head off of my 318? I plan on replacing the head gaskets while i'm in there but I also wanna check out some of the internals to make sure that the engine is in good shape inside. Thanks!

Drain it.

drain the coolant.

then to be safe, after re assembly drain the oil too.

I say in this order cause then the oil will drag/take with it any crap that falls into the pan.
