318 Poly heads and stuff

-
The LS head does not have water. Do the adapter plates have provisions to fix that problem?
Nope. It does not appear so. There's no extra passages in that intake. That said, why is it a "problem"? Plenty of V8 engines run dry intakes. I drive one sometimes everyday.

Yep , blue hoses on a red engine, how NAFF!
They are oil drain downs.

The adaptors on the front have the water hoses removed for the picture.
Trick stuff, gotta think outside the box for 600hp... :wtf:

No problem with the dry intake. Just wondering how the coolant gets circulated.

Defintely 'oil drains' as the Hinkles used a 318LA block so there are no oil drains for the heads!
I will be using seasoned Poly blocks for my 600hp builds as 318 LA blocks are too rare in the UK...

Wonder how much stronger (if any) a poly block is vs an LA block. I know the entire LA engine is lighter, but I think the LA block is a bit lighter as well? The LA heads ARE lighter.

Just like it does in any of the Ford 335 (Cleveland) family engines. Although those engines were a clean slate design from Ford with a different type cooling system. I'd wonder about the circulation too with a conversion like that. "Evidently" it must work. Here's how Ford did it with the Cleveland family. They MUST use a bypass style thermostat.

I built a 500hp 395ci Poly pump gas engine with Bruce Toth ported heads that flowed 247 on the intake and 166 on the exhaust at .600 lift I have it in a 66 Plymouth Valiant Gasser that runs low to mid 11 second 1/4 mile passes thru the mufflers with street tires. Here is a link to a video where you can see how a poly on pump gas can run with some work car can be seen at 1:32 into video:

That's a beauty!

Too bad they don't make those intakes and valve covers any more. I had photos of the foundry in Mexico where they were cast. Let me look. Nope, just photos of the products.
