So I was just wondering if anyone has ever thought about putting a 340 crank in a 318 and the boring the motor out to 4.04 the 340? Just wondering if this was a way to "clone" a 340 motor.

4.04 - 3.91= .130 overbore......good luck........

i would rather stick a 4 inch crank in a .030 bored 318......for 390 inches...

The crank swap is not needed, they are the same stroke. all it takes is a MASSIVE overbore to get there. But then you have a "340" with thin cylinder walls and smaller main caps. Waste of a lot of effort in my opinion. Better off to install a 4" crank with a normal .030 over bore.

wouldn't a 360 crank (3.58 stroke) in a ..030 over 318 hit close to your 340 target?(347?)
oh oh!..that's just about the same combo the General uses for Corvettes.

360 crank has different sized mains and would have to be machined down, but would be cool.

Scat sells a 3.58 stroke with 318/340 mains....forged or cast iron...

not a great selection of pistons for 3.58 stroke 3.93 bore..
