Building a 340 6 pack 67 Barracuda with 4 speed and 8 3/4 4.10 posi rear. 340 has been bored .030, decked, new cam bearings, freeze plugs etc. 10:1 pistons with stock bottom end (steel crank turned on rods and mains). Has factory x heads that need to be redone, or new Eddy's or something else. Just looking for a real good street/strip cam to finish the combo. Of course I want the best of both worlds, street friendly but with lots of power. Any help appreciated.

mopar purple cam P4120231 284/284 dur 484/484 lift 2600/6000 rpm

that is what is in my 340 with somewhat similar specs but with mildly ported J heads. This cam was recommended to use 4.10 rear

The 508 cam is just a bit much for the street from what i was told, but i have yet to run the engine.

And 1.6 rockers for .566 lift. (.018 valve lash figured in)

Love that Lunati grind, was gonna be my next cam in my 408,before it puked.

they have their own line of aggressive 904 lifter cams....
yes pretty stout ramps on that one,bet it sounds pretty nasty too.i know my cut for 904 lifters cam sounds really aggressive.and it's a little smaller ....and it's a solid....

Thanks for info guys. Wow. lot to digest. These seem like quite healthy cams. Streetability not an issue??

ive run the isky "mega" series with great results in a street car.if you want choppy idle, streetability ,and power the 280 mega would be my choice out of whats been listed.its an older design and probably wont make as much power as some of the others listed, but it will do what your asking for.its a difficult decision based on all the different grinds on the market, and we all have an opinion on the subject.

I agree with you the Isky 280mega would be a strong street cam and I've seen it beat the crap out of the Comp 280 magnum in dyno testing. Tim @ Bullet cams has a similar(on paper, but not the lobe design) that I've used in several street cars. 284 adv. [email protected] .490 with 1.5 RR. On a 108 or 110 lsa they really run well.

Just read a Mopar Muscle article where they took a stock 340 (281 HP), added an air gap intake, an 800 cfm Edelbrock, a set of 1 5/8 Hooker headers, and a Comp 268H Extreme Energy cam and got 392 HP out of it. Does that sound right?? Seems like a lot of HP gain for stock X heads with only those basic upgrades. 111 HP gain with only 4 bolt ons ????? Can that be?? All numbers verified on a dyno.

I think the 340's were more in the 330HP range. They underrated them for insurance purposes.

Don't believe the hype. That's a 1hp/ci build with stock heads on it. BTDT got the engine...

If you go to moparts, there's a member doing some dyno testing with a 360.

340's were lucky to make 290hp in stock form.

just like the boss 302 and chevies 302 z engines.they were around 290 hp,and they had solids and 3310s

I gave up on fast rate .904 hyd cams years ago. After testing some wicked fast lobes that crapped out by 6200rpm with strong springs etc,I went backward to some good.842 hyd lobes and softer springs and found 1000 Rpm. A good buddy has designed cams for many companys and told me some years ago that designing a good looking hyd cam was easy, getting a hyd lifter to give that info to the pushrod was the problem. I agree 100% what you see on paper is not so easy to translate through hyd lifters. If I need lot's of area I go solid.
