A lot of people use VHT wrinkle black. I use my powder equivalent. Though this breather is a few years older than yours, you get the idea.

I used Duplicolor Truck Bed Liner paint on mine.

My Air Cleaner was a chrome Trans-Dapt 14 X 3 with a 1" drop Base unit.
I just suffed the chrome slightly with an Emery Pad and sprayed on the finish with about 3 coats, starting very lightly at first.
It dries with a Wrinkle Finish -
It's been in place for a few years, and has been removed quite a bit, and shows none the worse for wear.
