340 block

Hi guys, I'm looking at a 71 340 block. The question I have is does this block come with a steel crank or a cast crank? how much would the crank cost?would either work? im putting this in my 68 when I have all the pieces. Thanks for all your help, first timer Dan.

I believe it was not untill 72 or 73 they went cast crank. I am thinking 73.....????

The 68-72 340 cranks are forged units,the 72-73 units are cast units.The parts numbers are 2843868 for the 68-72,3751162 is the 72-73 units,mrmopartech

Post the casting date of the motor or serial numbers and secondarys codes to be sure of the crank,mrmopartech

You can use the steel crank out of a 318. People seem to charge more if its from a 340.
