Hey,
does any one know if a 318 crank is compatable with a 340? And what year did the steel crank get replaced with a cast one?

Cheers,
Andy

I am not sure but that would be like going backwards.

I have a 340 Steel Crank With New Bearing for sale!

I forget what year the cast crank 318 came in. I think it was '72 or '73. Earlier the better.

But, they'll interchange. There the same crank.

KSP's deal sounds good.

I have a '65 318 poly crank in my 340. It will need to be rebalanced because the pistons and rods of the 340 are heavier than the 318, both LA and poly.

I used to use the 318-3 steel truck crank in my 340 drag engines. I think the 318 cranks up to 1969 were steel. The 318 steel crank does not have the 5/8 lightning holes drilled thru the 1-2 & 7-8 crank pins. This is the reason for the rebalance as the 340-360 rods are heavier, however without these holes, the crank should be stronger. The 340's went to a cast crank in early 1972 & all 1973's.
