Hi all,new member.I have a non computer savvy friend, that is trying to place a value on a crate motor. It's a 340 crate bought through direct connection in the late 70's.
He has no idea at all what it's worth.

We'd have a better idea if you had photos and specifications of said engine. My crystal ball is currently pretty cloudy! 65

$1812.49 - $3242.16 depending on where it was stored.

Cast crank, steel crank, x heads, j heads.
Too many blanks to fill in before an educated opinion can be determined. Like already mentioned, pictures and any other information would help.

If you're serious, due to the fact that you're new here how about posting pictures of the "DC crate motor" to make it easier to give an evaluation? These types of guessing games are a waste of time without pictures.

Is it new or used? Was it stored indoors? They are valuable

The 360 Crates were popular, but I believe they had a 340 too. It was a lot more expensive-I think?

The buyer almost certainly need to add in the cost of tearing it down/rebuilding it if it’s been sitting for decades.

Well, no surprise that there hasn't been at least a reply or an acknowledgment to our questions.

I don't ever recall a "crate 340 engine " available from ma mopar going back into the mid to late 70's. At that time I was working at a GM. dealership and would get parts from Chrysler dealers for dealer trade prices. Purchased factory 1/4 panels, fenders etc. If a 340 crate engine was available I would have purchased one. Maybe not available in Canada ?? Kinda glad I didn't cause I would have dumped my #'s matching 340 which I still have.
