I am getting ready to install the heads on my 340 and have a set of Mopar #P4120094 gaskets which should have a compressed height of .024-.028. The Mopar small block engine book claims these are the "improved" thin gaskets. They are coated with some type of material and are not a bare steel gasket. My concern is this, I want all the compression I can get but am also afraid these may not seal as well as the thicker style gaskets. The motor is primarly a street motor with 10.5:1 replacement pistons and will have Edelbrock heads on it. I am also worried that the greater expansion of the aluminum heads might cause premature failure with the thinner gaskets. Has anyone run the thin style gaskets without problems or should I just get the thicker ones?

ED those gakets should be fine. I plan on picking a set up for my car when I reseal it.
I ran steal shims on my 440 wich had enough compression to not care for straight pump gas and didnt have any problems.
