340 improvements with dyno numbers

Yea man! That would be an ideal retirement. Stay in the garage and screw off building/dyno testing engines.

Of course, the out comes would be weighed and carefully sorted through. I'm sure my dyno will read differently than your dyno.

It would be the best retirement. I would open an old school style gas station that offered high octane/ethanol/methanol along with repairs/customization and high performance engines. Geared towards old school muscle cars and high performance cars and such. The old school kinda garage guys used to hang out around on friday and saturday nights.

I wouldn't use a dyno. I would use a test mule race car. Build an engine for a customer, throw it in the car, run it. Pull the engine and sell it along with time slips.

This. I would build all the engines and combos you read about. Get actual numbers. Independent test. I would open an engine shop and just build quality engines with known good combos and help guys make power.

...high hp numbers are not always best, especially if they are a peak at a high rpm
a LOW hp build with everything properly matched that pulls hard all the way to the big
end may perform better!

the area under the curve. this is the area most builds could use some work.

I always care about the area under the curve.

That area starts where the lowest RPM that the engine is required to make power at.

If you are using a 5k stall (or better yet, you have a clutch) and the engine never falls below 5k, wgas what is happening at 2500???? I would give up 50 HP and even more torque at that RPM to gain it above 5k any day. If people want to think that it matters it doesn't. No one will tell the difference of 50 hp BELOW functional RPM but you'll see it in the times slips if you get that same 50 above functional RPM.

I love test mules. My favorite kind of car to play with. No worries, it'll change later or tomorrow.... LMAO!

And area under curves! Only 2 things come to mind and the other is women! I like to be under there curves, or over the .... Or on the side ....or .....

I'll be honest, most days, there would be no work done. I'll take 8 hours for a spark plug and wire change out. Ha ha ha ha...

my '71 340 cuda> ran 12.39@108mph in 3550lbs.
stock 340 Xheads no porting, fel-pro blue gaskets..9.5:1 ?
Holley strip Dominator, 850DP, 1.75" Chassis in/out race hdrs
DC .590"/312 sft cam, MSD6A etc. = 370 fly hp, ran strong

391hp from that combo?, not impossible....probably made more CP than I did.
