Hi all, I'm new here. Want to make sure I have all the correct oil galley plugs in place. Is there a good diagram anyone can point me to? I'm using an old marine manual and its not that helpful. I'm putting in the crank tonight but don't want to miss any oil galley plugs before I torque it down. I'm pretty sure there is a small plug under cap 5.

any help would be appreciated.

Its a stock 340 from a 1972 Sutphen. Chrysler sold a bunch of small block marine engines up till the mid to late 80's. My 340 was called the super bee 3.

Is that n Offy tunnel ram?? I don’t have a good diagram, but someone will come along and post one. The plug under the main cap can be checked with a long rod. Just slide it in the hole under the main cap and it should only go down...I forgot the measurement and I don’t want tell you wrong. You should also be able to see it down in the hole.

Don’t forget the pipe plug in the back of the drivers side lifter gallery. There are two on that side. The external one you get to from the bellhousing side and it’s through that hole that you install the inner plug.

Thanks for the help! It’s an old Edelbrock street fighter tunnel ram. That’s a picture of the engine after the first “rebuild”. This time I’m going without the fuel pump, one carb and an airgap manifold. Trying to simplify things this time.

Thanks, but I’ve never had her up to speed yet. First rebuild didn’t go so well. Every time she would go over 3000 rpm she would overheat.
lol, I don't care how fast it goes, still bada$$. Hopefully you'll square it away.

When I saw the add for the boat I had to have it. 20 years ago I sold my 72’ Challenge Rally 340 slapstick, 355 rearend, black on black, she went like a bat out of hell and I loved her. Sold her to buy a house and start a family. When I saw the boat had the same engine as my Challenger I scooped her up. Sutphen boats are famous for there off shore racing boats. They made smaller ones like mine but not in high numbers. Sutphen must of worked out a deal with Chrysler to use there marine engines. Chrysler marinized many of there engines. Slant 6, 318 poly, 318,340,360,383,400,413,35? Hemi, 440, 426 hemi.
My boat has a Volvo Penta outdrive not a jet drive. I’ve seen these boats with both but the Volvo penta has a much higher top speed. Anything above 50 is fast on the water I’m hoping to get her to 60mph. I’ve seen guys do 70 and above in these smaller boats but they need big HP and bigger balls than I have.
I’m guessing my engine will be around 400hp. Will see how fast it will push the boat then go from there.

When I bought the boat the engine was in pieces so I did my best with what was there. Definitely did it on the cheap. Will do better rigging her this time. I do love the old school style of this boat. Previous owner must have been a gear head!

I bet that boat will scoot pretty good. My grandfather had an old Chris Craft cabin cruiser with a 318 in it. That thing was super reliable, never broke down. That boat is somewhere in Florida now. My uncle bought it and drove it to Florida from Maryland.

Sweet, my dad had a 1946 Chris Craft with two straight 8 cylinder engines. He said they were Chrysler engines. He would let it idle just to listen to the sound, he loved the sound of those engines!
