I found these heads on MOPARTS they are 340 Z cast # 918 what can anyone tell me about them ???? will they work on a 1968 318cu engine thanks Z_daddy

just a J head...or O ...or U head...

unless they are milled a bit...they will kill the compression of a 318.

IMO, (Build dependent) that is way to much head to be bothered with. You'll need to turn high RPM to even think about getting there worth at a min.

Better of with the stock 318 head with valve work, back cut and comp valve job. If you plan on a med. size cam,, the head would do well with a 1.60 exhaust, maybe a 1.88 intake valve. Again, build dependent.

At least you are working with a '68 318, which has the highest compression height of the LA series 318 engines.
The 'Z' head is actually a late '70 340 head (also found on the 1st run of 1970 360s) and are usually 2.02 valve heads.

Peronally, I don't think a 2.02 valve is necessary on a 318, unless you really want to buzz the thing 8 grand.
A 1.88 valved 360 head is plenty and your torque at low end won't suffer as much, as long as you get the compression back up to 9:1.

Mark.
