Hi Guys

New member here. Just want to say this is a great site with helpful people and great information.

I do have a question regarding setting up a 4 speed transmission to a 360 motor.

Question for you to see what i will need.
I am converting a 1974 duster from auto to manual.
I'am also swapping out motor. Car is original 318.

I will be putting in a 360 with a the 4 speed 833.
The transmission is a A body 4 speed Trans with 23 spline from 1968 to 1970 Dart/Duster.
I have a 360 flywheel and a bellhousing that will fit the Flywheel but he hole in it is a bit to big for the smaller input off a 340 Transmission.
So my question is ....do all I need is a different bearing retainer for the transmission?

cheers

The bellhousing you have is most likely for an O/D A833 and has the 5.125" register hole. Your trans most likely is the 4.3" register. Easiest solution is sell the bellhousing you got and buy the right one.

Try Brewers or Passion Performance online. They may have a bearing retainer that would work.

QuickTime sells spacer collars with their bell housings that work with all Mopar transmissions. They may sell them separately. I have their bell housing part # 6072 I think with 2 spacers that fit Mopar 4.80 and 4.35 bearing retainers. Without the spacers the Overdrive 5.125 bearing retainer fits.

Thanks for the info guys.
I found this link...

Here is a quote:

The Overdrive bell housings can be modified to accept either the 4.80" or the 4.35" IBR. A ring must be fitted to the bell housing to reduce its IBR hole from 5.125" to 4.35" or 4.80". This ring must maintain the hole's exact center! A skilled and caring machinist should be able to accomplish this without issue. Good planning would provide the machinist with the bell housing and IBR you plan to use so a perfect fit can be achieved
