360 and a blower

-
I have a single key stock forged crank in mine at 9 lbs of boost. The only time I ran into trouble with it was when I switched my pulleys to get 12 lbs of boost. Although it was great for power the stock balancer didn't like it and broke due to the extra torque on it. Took out the timing cover as well. I don't know where the limit is on a cast crank but I wouldn't chance it, I would go with the double key.

We have 2 boosted small blocks. A 340 which has a worn out 6v-71 (a little shorter than a 6-71). Home ported iron heads, 8-1, [email protected]. .540/.560@110lca. The blower is adapted to a single 4 barrel intake. Ive had it blown since the mid 80's. In a 3880lb Volare it'll run 11.0@122 in street trim @12psi. Ran it with a stock block for years. Then had a chance to get a R3 block which is currently in it. How hard can you run a stock 360 block and crank? We had one turbocharged. Ran up to 22psi. Never hurt the block or crank. We did eventually melt one piston after about 8 years. It ran as quick as 9.55@142 3750lbs. The best tuning tip I can give is be conservative with timing. We run 21-30 total depending on boost.

What is your carb setup on the one in the picture? Size and jetting?

Its had both Carter Comp 750s and Eddy 1407's. The carters ran one step up from stock. The Eddys were pn it last time at the track it was up to 116 square .

Any updates on this?
I had it on the dyno over the summer.
510 hp at 6000rpm, very flat torque curve. Just about 9psi. We cut it off at 6k since the bottom end is basically stock components. I still haven't decided what I'm putting it in. But I do want it running in a car next summer.

It ran really nice. Very smooth, and didn't require any jetting changes. Just a little timing adjustment. We set lash after a couple pulls and it gained 7hp. They were a couple of thou loose. Which tels me I could've used more duration. But im happy with 510hp and a nice flat torque curve. Grandma should be able to take it for groceries the way it runs.

Very nice. That’ll be fun! It sure is neat looking!

So I found a candidate for thd 360. I picked up this rust free 66 Coronet wagon last fall. After completely removing the interior to clean out all the rat **** and nests, new carpet and a few parts, it's actually pretty nice inside too. It has 56k miles but was abused and left neglected for decades on a farm in Texas. Currently have the entire from suspended apart for a rebuild. Rear i already did new brakes, shocks, tank, sender 3/8 fuel line, brake lines, hose, etc. I had a nice 3.55 sure grip laying g here so I popped that in. I might put a 2.94 in it o ce it's running. It's going to have a 727 but I'm really considering a 4 speed.

I also pulled the heater box to clean and put in new seals, heater core. Scrubbed all the floors with purple power and a garden hose. A guy is making me a piece for the rear window crank. Replaced the front bumper with a straight one. Replaced some grille parts, lenses front and rear, a few trim parts, and a tone of other stuff done. Been working on it a lot. It's almost ready for the engine to go in.

This has been the filthiest car I've ever worked on. Gravel roads forever. Grease on the K frame was 1/2 inch thick. Really preserved it though. It's super solid. Just a little crust on the bottom of the gate and the spare tire area. The back glass had been down for probably as long as it was sitting so it got wet back there.

Had a poly 318 in it. Also covered in rat poo. I put plugs and points in it with a good carb I have. It purred like a kitten after smoking the place out for a while. I couldn't believe how nice it ran actually.
