Hello!

I wanted to get some suggestions on the 360 I am going to build for my 1974 Duster 4-Speed.

I have a stock 1971 360. This is what I am planning to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

360 - 1971 Block
Heads - to be flowed by CompuFlow in Medina Ohio
Cam - Mopar Purple Shaft 284/284
Lifters - Hydraulic
Pistons - Keith Black Flat tops - KB 167
Crank - Stock (Polished)
Manifold - Edelbrock RPM Air Gap
Carb - Holley Street Avenger 670
Ignition - Mopar Electronic Ignition
TTI Headers
TTI Exhaust

Any help would appreciated!

what kind of heads are they? i would think about a 292/508 mp cam.. that is a 4 speed cam and maybe a 750 holley

Hello!

I wanted to get some suggestions on the 360 I am going to build for my 1974 Duster 4-Speed.

Pistons - Keith Black Flat tops - KB 167

Aren't those the 318 pistons? KB107's are a zero deck piston.

Whats the gear ratio, intended purpose of the build, the flow rates of the head, and actual comp ratio your looking for?

I did make a mistake the KB 167's are flat tops for the 318.

My intention for the build is to have a nice 350 HP motor. The car is going to be a driver. I plan on running a 3:55 suregrip. I don't know the flow rates of the heads because they have not been flowed yet. I have a stock 1971 360 that I am using for my base.

It looks like I have a lot more research to do to figure out the correct configuration!

Looks good but I would run a smaller cam. Either a Comp XE268 or XE274 or equivalent.
I would also try and keep tire height around 26: with the 355s,

I'd do what Adam said. The purple you list is a bit stout for what your looking to do and with that gear ratio, it'll be a little doggie out of the hole.

I had the purple shaft in the 340 in my cuda. It was ok but i gained much better idle and more mid range power using the edelbrock performer rpm. The car was also over .2 faster in the 1/4

I think your overall goal sounds doable.

350 horsepower is not unrealistic.

If you intend on daily driving it, or putting it on the highway any, I would keep the compression under 9.5:1.

The truth is, you do not need alot of Duration on your camshaft to make good power....Duration is how long the valves stay open.

A more mild duration camshaft (268/272) with more lift than the MP 284* .488, will make the similar power numbers and have more vaccuum.

Get a good timing chain to throw in the mix and your set!!:-D

Thanks for all of the reply's. I plan on driving the car as much as possible! Should I go with a taller gear, 3:91, and a taller tire?

This is my first build so I appreciate all of the help. I will get some pictures posted once I get the car home! Hopefully, that will be in the next few months.

Thanks for all of the help.

With a 670 carb your 360 with 1.88 intake valved heads at 9.5 compression with the Mopar 284/484 cam will make:

360 HP @ 5500
389 TQ @ 4000

With a 750 carb:

362 HP @ 5500
391 TQ @ 4000

No thanks on the pistons. I haven't taken the engine apart yet so I have no idea what it looks like inside.

Ok. So it appears with all of the great suggestions that the following should give me a nice combiniation:

RPM Air Gap
KB 107's
Holley or Edelbrock 750
9:5.1 compression
Cam: Comp XE 274

What are the thoughts on changing to a 3:91 with a taller tire possibly 28 inch versues the 3:55 with a 26 inch tire?

i have 7 out of 8 used kb107 pistons you can buy for the same price of new pistons from Summit.

Fixed

Back to the subject.
If you are going to do any highway/freeway driving I would stay in the 3.23-3.55 range.

Thanks. I do plan on doing some highway driving so I will stay with the 3:55's!

Think about the MP 280/474. Much more streetable than the 284. Nice idle, tons of mid range. Easy 325-350 horse combo...
