Contemplating doing a 360 Magnum build, Horsepower goal somewhere around 350-450 at crank

The last time I did a 360 magnum we just stuffed a custom lunati cam in it and ran everything else stock with dougs long tube headers. Wanna get a little bit more into it this time.

What heads do y'all recommend? I don't want to use the stock ones this time around.
 
you could drill the block to oil the heads like a LA, then run any LA head you wish. Trick Flow, Edelbrock, Promaxx, Speedmaster, etc etc etc.
 
Yeah, not many choices for Magnum heads these days. A couple years ago I bought Edelbrock 2.02 heads on black Friday from Mancini for my 5.9 build.

Pie used to sell EQ Heads but I'm not sure if they still do. Mopar EQ Cylinder Heads

MUCH more options if you convert to LA oiling like @318willrun mentioned.

You can also run LA heads on a undrilled magnum block, you just have to use a oil-through pushrod, and rockers designed to be oiled the same. PRW brand are pretty decent for the money. The real issue is a lack of available heads at the moment.
 
Good starting points to consider though, The only reason im leaning towards the magnum instead of the LA is because every junkyard here has 500 of them sitting on a shelf for next to no money.

I like the Magnum based builds because they have good oil sealing upgrades to the valve covers and are roller cam ready.

You can use LA oil pans with a minor alteration to the front timing cover area and K member. (see pics)

I'm waiting on a set of Eddies that will be CNC ported for a Magnum based 408 blower motor, and the latest word is sometime in spring. The intakes are also slow in arriving.

Which ever head you choose. have them ported and blueprinted by a reputable shop like Dwayne Porter etc.

Comp cams has the Pro Magnum rockers that can be oiled via a pushrod, call Mancini racing as well. I’m not sure if Mancini has pushrod oiling rockers but it’s worth a try.

TF heads are your best bet IMO. Best as cast head on many levels.

If you intend on rebuilding one try to source an earlier Magnum, most likely it’ll still have the feed holes for the heads. Once you’ve established that then determine the heads you need.
 
You can, but you can’t use a Magnum intake. There set up & drilled for LA intake manifolds.
Why would you want to run a stock magnum intake on a set of cnc machined and ported cylinder heads? Just use an aftemarket intake manifold from Edelbrock, etc....
 
You likely have a better chance of finding an magnum intake currently over an LA one if you are wanting to get the build started...I personally would build a magnum for any small block that I was not trying to make over 450hp

HERES RIGHT OFF THE TRICK FLOW WEBSITE. NO YOU DONT NEED TO MESS WITH THE MAGNUM OILING. YOU CAN STILL USE LA STYLE INTAKE AND VALVECOVERS.
JUST NEED TO USE HARLAND SHARP ROCKERS.

Magnum engines must use Harland Sharp S72025K (1.5 ratio) or S72026K (1.6 ratio) shaft mount roller rocker arms for proper oiling.

Horsepower fans know that Trick Flow is all about developing products that provide maximum performance, such as the PowerPort® 190 cylinder heads for small block Mopar. The heads fit all non-emissions, LA and Magnum-series 318, 340, and 360 engines used through 2003. That’s right, even Magnum owners can now use readily available LA engine parts such as intake manifolds and valve covers.
Like all of Trick Flow’s top-quality cylinder heads, the PowerPort 190 heads are made from A356-T61 aluminum because it’s much lighter but still every bit as strong as cast iron. The intake runners have been enhanced to increase airflow, and both intake and exhaust runners feature Trick Flow’s special CNC Street Ported treatment that combines premium quality CNC machining with a standard resolution finish that‘s perfect for making more power. Would yall suggest trick folows or EQ's?

Ill be running an eddelbrock air gap intake most likely, its what im familiar with.

The good EQ castings are no longer available, the trick flow would be vastly superior, but I dont think they are currently available either.
 
Summit currently shows a few edelbrock heads in stock, at 900+ EACH, and they will 100% need to be disassembled and checked before useable. If it were ME, I'd grab 2 BARE speedmaster heads (summit) and build them with quality parts. I've built a bunch of em, there actually pretty nice castings.
