We have a '66 Canadian Valiant that originally had a 273 2 barrel.
Just finishing up a mild 360 magnum and 727 for this car.

We just discovered the passenger 273 side mount doesn't bolt up to the Magnum.
I went to Schumacher who makes a conversion mount but they are out of stock.
Anybody know of other options for the passenger side?
I figured we could fab up something that will work.

Thanks!

And your 727 won't like the early A bodies either. Yes you will needs some conversion mounts.

Toolman,
I appreciate the reply. We had not considered that the 727 wouldn't fit.
A quick Google search didn't find much info on the 727 swap.
Do you have any more info on whats involved in getting the 727 to fit?
Thanks!!

I don't know about the mount but the 727 is bigger. (never installed in early A's. All were 904's) Clearance with the firewall is a issue that I have heard of.

Might be some info @ BigblockDart.com or Magnumswap.com

The mount needs the same modification that's necessary for an LA 340/360 swap. For the passenger side mount, refer to:
Motor Mount Bracket - dwg I.jpg (600×800) (cloudfactory.org)
On the driver's side, a 5/8 spacer needs to be used between the upper rear engine mount ear hole and the bracket.
To fit a 727 to an early A, all you need is a BFH. The pinch weld needs to be folded flat, and various clearances may need to be "enhanced". Different As may need more or less work- they're all different.

And another heads up- depending on what you're using for exhaust. If you're running headers, you'll have to grind the mid-block "Magnum" mount bosses down in order to clear the headers. The headers may also need to be modified to clear the 727 at the bellhousing, since it is wider than the 904 that came in these cars.
If using LA manifolds, you may need to run double exhaust gaskets on the driver's side, in order for the manifold's downleg to properly clear the Magnum head. In some extreme cases you may need to run a header flange between the head and manifold as a spacer.
The transmission crossmember also needs to be modified in order to run dual exhaust.

You might have to cut and reform the transmission tunnel to fit a 727. If so, why not use the transmission which came with the 5.9L Magnum, as many have done? That gives overdrive and a lockup torque converter for better mileage. I have a 727 short-block transmission w/ cable-shift for my 1965 Dart 273. Never installed and might never. I understand one just needs to beat over the pinch-weld to clear the trans tunnel. Downside is more parasitic drag than with the 904 currently in it. I think the 727 came in trucks. Might be better for drag-racers, but I'll never be doing that. Anyway, perhaps a lever-shift 727 SB will fit your 1966 if you take a hammer to that pinch-weld which drops down in the tunnel.

A built 904 or 998 will slip right in without any mods and handle the torque .
The a500 won’t fit without major tunnel changes and mount mods . Not a good choice for Overdrive .
How ever a GM th200r4 will slip in with minor mods to the mount . This is a better choice for the early a bodies that want 4speed automatic with overdrive .

Driver's side "spacer."

 UH OH!! Not a thing wrong with that, but you're probably gonna get talked down to by the all knowing, ever condescending, prime lab specimen for proctology students and self appointed expert of everything Mopar.

Exactly - that's why I put it in scare quotes.

But it's been that way for almost fifty years. Sometimes ya don't need fancy. . . .
