does this engine sound too modern for my 68 cuda.
"360 Magnum from Dakota R/T or Durango R/T"
its for sale locally by me and the price is right.
will it bolt to an older trans?

Yes...I run a1999 5.9 Magnum, mated to a 727. Depending on the year of the Magnum(96-97 crossover year) ,the later model engines, you run a neutral 318/340 non weighted converter,or a 360 converter, with the weights knocked off...Earlier ones, usually need the B&M specific flexplate, for the easy way out.

thanks.
I forgot he also stated this "Flexplate for automatic transmission. Externally balanced."
there is no intake but I think it was injected anyway.

You can buy a carb intake for a Magnum engine if ya don't want to mess with the EFI.

A 360 magnum would be a nice engine to have.

I run a 96 Magnum with a 95 42RH overdrive trans.
OH BABY! :D

The main problem I have with a Magnum swap is the ONE choice of carbed intakes at $300

You will need either a 360LA "car" pan or a front sump pan for a Mag. Not sure what that would be. The pan is a change for the magnums. Mags whether 5.2 or 5.9 both use a 360 type pan, IE has the smaller rear cutout.

That's the "center sump" pan and can be gotten for about 50 bucks pretty much anywhere.
I think I paid right around 75 for the pan and matching pickup.

You want to run a flex plate or flywheel balanced for the 5.9 ONLY. 360 balanced parts are NOT balanced the same.

Magnum swaps are all we do, its easy and the Magnum makes a bunch more power in stock form than the LA. PM for more info or find us on the web. We have a bunch of magnum info on our site too. magnummopar.

thanks.

keep in mind the Dakota had the fuel pump in the rear of the vehicle, your cuda had it attached to the engine
so, in order to get fuel to the motor you need to change out the cam in the magnum (which is not set up for a mechanical fuel pump) or install an electric fuel pump near the tank of the cuda

I thought you could put a cam snout extension and an LA timing cover on a magnum? That would allow you to have a mechanical fuel pump while keeping the stock cam. Although for performance reasons, regrinding the cam would be a good idea which would still be cheaper than buying a new cam. Installing a mechanical pump seems like less of a hassle than an electric pump with a return and regulator.

I've never messed with a 5.9, so I can't speak from experience, but I'm pretty sure you can make a mech pump work with the stock cam.

All true. :D
You can get magnum cams with the adapter parts for the mechanical pump and use either 318 or 360 LA style timing cover and water pump.
Pretty sure you can get the magnum roller cam with the snout already there also. (not positive on that one)
I got my roller regrind from Oregon Cam Grinders for about 150 and was even able to use the stock magnum pushrods.

I will never go back to a mechanical pump, but not all electrics need a regulator and a return.
The electric I just installed is called a High volume/Low pressure and puts out right at 6 psi and I put in a orifice limited return.
The electric I had before this didn't have a return or regulator either one, and I drove it for years like that.
I like being able to turn the key and have it fire right up. :D (even after sitting)

so, as pointed out, there are a few options on how to tackle the fuel delivery problem
my main point was that it is something that will need to be addressed when swapping in the magnum
how the OP chooses to address it is up to him

There are 4 different magnum carb intakes that I am aware of.
I have two different ones sitting on my work bench right now.
One single plane and one duel plane.

How about listing those puppies? :D

Mopar M1 single plane
Mopar M1 duel plane

Keep in mind the duel plane is no longer made, hard to find

The other two would be eldebrock air gap and the china knock off crosswind

The third would be the one you mentioned, unless you were talking about a MP piece. So my best count is 3, but possibly only two.

Damn there is a bunch of math on this site.

Ah, thanks guys.
Sorry about all the math, and I'll try to keep it to a minimum from now on. :D
