Just bought 75 Duster here is what i'm working with, stock width 8.75 moser axles and spool 4:56 mt 28-9-15 cal tracs ptc trans man valve body grinner brake all msd ign pro billet dist 6al2/2step now the bad 71 383 .030 2315 speed pro slugs 906's gasket match mild porting on intake's only 509 purple shaft m1 intake 830hp holley 1.75 b body under chassis headers I bought car with a spun rod actually 2 spun rods previous owner said car ran 7.70 1/8 . My question is is there a better or newer grind camshaft that might work with this low compression combo 9.25 tops I'm going to run .020 steel shim gaskets to get all I can with valve clearance being the determining factor.I have a 440 in the works but am going to have to make this work for now with my budget .I have already ditched under chassis for hooker 2" super comp fenderwells any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have a 67 belvedere with a 440. it is build almost to the T to what that 383 is. same cam and everything. with a ptc converter and 4.30 gears it has been 7.40's at 3550 lbs with me in it. I footbrake it.

I think there is a lot more than 7.70's in the combo you have. your car is lighter than mine and you have a trans brake (I'm assuming) along with more gear.

I know I have more cubic inches, but that 383 should still run close being in a lighter car. I kinda choke the 440 with a 750 dp carb as well.

I would rebuild as you have said with the thinner gaskets, and look at a Comp High energy grind. something around the same duration as the .509 cam you have but with a split duration.they are a little better grind than our old purple cams and are ground to take advantage of our .904 lifters.

also, maybe have the converter sent in to PTC and let them check and freshen it if need be. if the cam is changed very much the converter will need to be sent in anyway to be adjusted for the new cam specs.

WHOLE LOT of performance in a torque converter that is right for the combo. I was running 7.80's with a B&M holeshot converter, and went to 7.40's and 50's when I called PTC and had them build me a converter for my application.

good luck and keep us informed.

Those 1.75" b body headers had 3" collectors and 2.5" extensions weren't helping things went from 1.75 tube cppa under chassis on last car (440) to hooker fenderwells picked up nearly 2 tenths thanks keep ya updated

i run the 1.75" hedmans on the belvedere.

The converter has been mentioned. What are you planning on using there? I'm curious if you have adjustable rockers and have the guides been cut for dual springs? While I like moparmitch's cam, you can use a bit more for a race only build with your gear, imo. I think a solid flat tappet would be the best bang for the buck, but we need to know if your current engine is capable of running the correct springs & adjustable rockers?

Its got mp stock rockers and hard shafts comp cams matched 1.55 springs with dampners 10 degree retainers and locks stainless valves stock diameter.

Ialso have a set 346 heads that I've cut the guides and have pc seals and isky adj. rockers I had them on a 440 with comp cam 305 magnum stick.

Broke a rod on that motor at Gateway on the big end at 6000 OOuch!
