383 in a 71 dodge Demon transmission issue

My 71 dodge demon has a 383 in it and the trans will only shift into 1st and 2nd. Its a torqueflight trans. so im missing 3rd. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Were is the 1-2 shift points at?

It shifts at like 10-20 somewhere in there. Then I dont get the next gear.

Make sure it full of fluid and the kick down linkage is hooked up to the carb down to the tranny and it moves with the throttle,does it have reverse?

It has reverse, but the linkage in the car from the b&m shifter is a little out of whack. It is sometimes hard to find it but it does work.

Reverse and third use the same set of clutches,that's why I ask,but those B&M shifters I do not care for mainly because of the cable routing and they get loose inside the cable and cause that problem.

Make sure that the plastic covering on the B+M shifter cable has not melted through. If it has, the steel wire that does the shifting will push through the inner wire jacket then the wire won't operate the tranny shift lever properly (at the tranny). Ask me how I know.
