383 = no love

Street potential...similar to the way a 428 ford roared when it was allowed to breathe. The 383 manifolds had it all over the fords. Back in the day Header swaps were a real eye opener, That 428 had some real power after the swap. Yeah, I hung with a lot of Ford guys in 1979. And no, there were no fast 390 cars.

What are you implying here....

actually i just went back and watched that shootout.I didn't realize the heads were shaved and it was taken to 9.6:1 comp.Fully rollerized with .540 lift cam,headers and 850 carb etc.
Without accessories that 439 hp was probably realistic.
