392 hemi in a 64 dart?

I've seen a 392 Hemi in a motorcycle, so it will fit, but as someone who installed a first generation Hemi in a '55 Plymouth, I can say that there is no way I would ever again put more than 800 pounds over the front wheels of a light vehicle not designed for that much weight. It flew, but with the horrible weight distribution I never knew what was going to happen when I floored the accelerator. The chassis needs to be designed and built for the engine, then a body of choice dropped on.

There is a member here with a 392 in an early Valiant, but unfortunately I can't remember his screen name right now. I'd recommend a search for 392.

It was a 354 actually. Here is the thread.

I would love to see this build. I have a totally rebuilt 392 Hemi with some goodies in it just sitting on a stand in my garage. Not sure what to do with it.

I think it's a 354 but the same. I can't place the members name either.

I too have one on the stand waiting for the appropriate project to come along.
 
I was under the impression that it'd fit better in the back seat than under the hood
 
Thanks for the input..I might go with my 2nd option of a 340 stroker for weight purposes. I was told going with a straight axle, I could cut out half of the inner fender wells to save a bunch of weight.----Stylo

I think the 392 comes in around 750 Lbs.

If it were mine it would get the firewall moved back along with the motor, then move the rear axle forward six inches because with a six inch move it looks factory. My race dart has the rear moved and the engine set back about 17 inches. That motor is HEAVY and the stock wheelbase puts WAY too much of it up front. Scoring aluminum heads and any other engine parts in aluminum you can will help tremendously in making it track worthy as far as weight distribution goes..

this is my former gasser 392 hemi 4 speeds and a halibrand quick change diff,if you run with a strait axle its easy to fit a 392 in your car,beleive it or not i let go this car with the original super stock Hood scoop,but it was in 1980,,oups.

Very nice looking car! A friend of mine suggested the same thing, but I was thinking of having it as a street/ strip car also. Here's a picture of my street car I've had since 1987. Thanks for the input....Stylo View attachment 1714999733 View attachment 1714999733

Your plan could work with a rear axle move, stock motor location, and what ever light parts it takes to get the weight under 55 percent front if you are going to run 9.0 or quicker. At 8.80s I need a trans brake to hit the tires hard enough for a decent launch at 53 percent front. I had it at 50/50 , but it was too violent on launch, wild wheelstands. Wheelie bars 66 inch long worked but it would hit them so hard I could feel it lose traction.
The problem between street and strip is on the street the traction REALLY suffers as weight gets heavier on the front. At 50/50 you could feel my car pulling pretty hard; at 53/47 about half as hard, almost instant red line in high gear from a standing start. That is with a 15 x 33.6 slick.
If you are going to run mid 9s, 50/50 worked for me, but needed wheelie bars to limit wheelstands.

I put a 392 in a 63 val. wagon. Yes it will fit and you can close the hood.Mustang front end, move steering and master cil., jam radiator into grill, notch for dist. under wiper mtr. move battery into left wheel well,small starter,make boat style pan,ram horn ex man. with left side tight to block(56 Imperial),and get a foam block and heads it will come in and out about 20 times.
