I didn't know whether to put this here or in the Tires & Rims section, but I'll start here.

Can anybody tell me if switching from either 9" or 10" front brakes to the Kelsey-Hayes 4 Piston brakes moves the mounting surface of the wheel in or out from its previous position? I'm wanting to know if front tire & rim clearances were marginal with one setup, will they be the same when switching to the discs, or will they change. Thanks!

:burnout:

With one of the wheels I currently have a movement of 1/8" towards the spindle would cause the rim of the wheel to hit the upper control arm.

I just recently switched my front drums to Kelsey-Hayes discs. In order to mount the calipers, you need the disc spindle. You should also get the heavier ball joint. The spindle for the drums uses a bolt diameter of 1/2". The bolts for the disc spindle have a diameter of 9/16". We drilled out my ball joints to get the job completed, but ordered new ball joints the same day. I have 14" wheels and have no clearance issues.
