I have a friend who has a 71 400. It was torn down and the block sent to the machine shop for magging, clean-up, etc. He was either going build a 451 stroker (he has a forged 73 440 crank) or maybe sell it. If you are interested, I can PM you his number.
 
I have a complete 400, never been apart, 74 motor, turns over and ran when pulled
 
I've got a 400 block, 1977. I have smoothed the lifter valley, chain area, and cleaned up passages, removed flashing. No caps.
 
I have a couple 400 short blocks for sale as well as a 383 block. I also have a 383 steel crank and a 440 steel crank. PM me if interested.
