I figured i'd ask how this build sounds to people who have done stroker mopars before. I plan on building it after winter break at school.
1980 360 .030 over
forged or cast 4" crank can't decide yet
internally balanced
stock rods
forged pistons about 9.5-10:1
stock 360 heads w/2.02 valves p+p
air gap intake
eddy 750 cfm carb
high volume oil pump
2500 stall stock converter
Crane powermax H-288-2 cam
-2600-6000RPM, 226,230 adv. duration @.050,
-110 lobe separation,.458,.456 lift
904 tranny
probably tti step headers
3.23 sure-grip rear 8 3/4 rear
maybe 100 shot nitrous

my plans are for about 400 flywheel hp easy. do you think i should build it to rev past 6000 or would i have to upgrade too much to take it. i know the heads will hold me back but they will be upgraded eventually student loans can't afford aluminum heads. but i think thats it any opinions on it would be great. is there anything that should be upgraded. this will be the first performance motor i've ever built so i'm up for options.
thanks for any advise

Sounds like a nice mild street motor. It will have tons of torque.

I do not think you'll have to rev past 6,000 for max power.

thank you and thats good to know, so i can run a cast internal balanced crank and stock rods then. sounds great

Yes you can.
I would have the rods resized, smoothed and shot peened with new high stregth bolts for the laffin gas useage.

Get all the parts and machining completed- and then phone Jim @ Racer Brown and get yourself a custom ground cam based on your final combination - not a catalogue. you won't be disappointed.
3.23 gears might be a tad hight in ratio - go for a set of 3.55s or 3.91s depending on tire dia. suggest targeting for 2600rpm @ 60mph so your in the good torque band of the cam and ultimately the engine.
If you plan on a lot of ftreet driving, I'd go with the RPM performer - but not the Airgap - cooler weather plays havic with warmup and idle quality.
make sure you have the amount of initial advance in the 14-18* range no matter what cam you go with. My experience SBM like as much initial as you can give it and still start.

I'll leave the carb selection up to you - I would go with a 650dp Speed Demon as long as the cam duration @50 stays below 240* or a Holley 3310vs.

Most important - have fun.
Kepp us updated as you progress.

Sounds good......the cam and heads will limit your RPM.....Call Scott Brown at Straighline for the cam.....http://www.straightline-perf.com/ You won't be dissapointed. For the Carb...I'd go with a 750 Holley DP...the eddy will be a major choke in the system and you'll have fits with it on a stroker. If this car os for the street 3.23's will be fine for cruising around but they will hold you back at the strip.....3.91's will be a good set of stree/strip gears for ya. I'd also look at getting an ACC Custom Converter for the car too...http://www.accperformance.com/.....If you go with a custome converter the car will perform better and you won't be spending a big amount of money for a converter that fits the car. I made that mistake too....cheap converter and spent money else where....you'll be surprised how much better the car performs with a converter matched for the motor.

thanks everyone some of the items listed are what i have right now but will upgrading the gears and carb eventually. thanks again for the advise. and i did want to order a custom cam but didn't know who to call so this helps out ALOT. keep giving me sugestions.

The cam you spec'd will be all done at about 5K rpm, if that. It needs more. Much more if you're running those heads. The carb is also way small for a 4" arm. They sound huge, but I would run at least an 850cfm old school Holley on it, and a cam in the 230 range, but with at least .540 lift. At the valve, this will actually be closer to .510. I also would not use factory rods. Run the cast crank, and use the $$ you save for H beam rods. Diamond and Ross both have good pistons, I'd say Diamonds are a better piston, but that's me. Definately internal balance it.

KB makes a froged piston for 4" stroker applications and they are relly nice pistons for quite a bit cheaper than the Diamonds......Ross and Diamond are great pisotns....where the Ross are a little lighter and take less mallory to balance.
