Will a stock fuel pump provide enough fuel on a 408 stroker to the end of the 1/4 mile?

My dad's 4spd 340 cuda picks the wheels a little and is just about an 11 sec car with a mechanical pump and factory fuel lines. I thought it'd be lean or nose over but plugs are fine and the mph makes sense.

What horsepower are you designing your motor to make??

It takes a certain amount of energy to deliver a certain horsepower.

A stock 440 1970 Chrysler has more cubic inches than your 408. It uses a stock replacement fuel pump rated very close to your stock small block off the self pump.

holy crap! Almost screwed up my phone was in the garage doing a little home porting and I think I magnetized myself! Lol

horsepower could be the question of the day? !
×2 600 cfm edelbrocks tunnel ram, 596heads (home porting- smoothing exhaust ports/ opening under all seats just a little bit- not getting carried away here I'm a first timer) then back to the shop for valve job-1.60/1.88 . Solid cam (regrind) cam- duration@ .50 - 259/267 lift gross 546/566 lash .026/.028 lob sep. 104/110
Av. 107. 273 rockers. 360 block, scat stroker (cast) crank, scat I-beams, icon forged flat tops - 10.8 : 1 with 70cc heads.

Of course this will be in my 73 duster

I'm going to use the new stock one that I used on the old motor.
I don't want to spend $ on things I don't need. Couldn't I ad an electric pump later if needed to boost?

Actually I'll start a new thread with this stuff

fact is, you're running two carbs instead of one. fuel volume will be critical! usually you need volume to feed two carbs. a stock mech pump doesn't have enough volume to do the job. also larger dia line is usually required along with a good electric pump. I seen the inside of a stock mech pump off a 409 chev, it had two valves per side and they were bigger dia versus a regular mech pump.

X2 on what Perfacar said. My 408 is a single carb that makes about 440 hp and a stock pump ran out of fuel half way through 2nd gear. Changing a fuel pump is easy though so if you want to try it go for it. Then if it doesn't work you can swap it out.

BTW: I hope your not still running the stock a-body 5/16" fuel line and pickup for 2 600 carbs. I can't imagine they'll do the job

Your probably right. It worked fine on the 318, but everything is going to be 22% bigger now.

Running a mechanical Carter fuel pump on a 414 stroked small block with twin 450dp Holleys though 1/2 fuel line, this combo is cutting 11 sec pass with no problem.

The Carter pump part number is M6270 and is rated at 120gph and up to 8psi.
