what are the cam specs, bigger cam can bleed off a lot of compression.
 
Had a 9:7 to 1 (actual comp),408 (KB 356 pistons,340 Edelbrock RPM 65 c.c.). Ran a [email protected],106 lobe center hydraulic lifter(Comp AH312). It had 185-ish. Changed cams,to a 294s Comp solid flat tappet.Comp dropped to 170-175. Depends on cam size ,quench & chamber size. Really need more info.
