Well I wanted to rebuild this engine after three years run time and here I am on it’s fifth year. Never been shifted over 7000 rpm and has gone 5.98 in the 1/8 and 9.42 in the 1/4. 5-6 weeks ago the car lost about .05 in the sixty foot going from mid summer 1.28 to consistent 1.33 and running 6.13-6.23 on most passes. I built the powerglide transmission (my first) 4 years ago and put a fresh 5750 stall spragless Transmission Specialty’s converter in it. I kept blaming the loss on the 88-90 degrees that we have had every weekend but figured I better do some maintenance. Comp test and leak down numbers show number 6 cylinder down at 137 and 143 after a few squirts of transmission fluid in the cylinder. On the leak down it was leaking 22% and 16% after the fluid. The other cylinders were good especially being I run alcohol.

Pretty sure I’m going to go ahead and start pulling the transmission tomorrow since I have a brand new one ready to go. I also have a 5600 stall converter here too so I’m trying to cover as many bases as I can so I’m ready for the big SFG race coming up at Columbus the first weekend of September.

Those numbers are really good for a five year old alcohol build.

I was really happy except for the one. I may try to spray and crank it several times this week to see if I can seal it up some. I love transmission fluid for this job as it cleans so good.

If you guys are looking for a nice but somewhat expensive tool for the wife to buy you for Christmas check these out. I should use it more often but being I shift so low I use it to check for a possible broken spring. Takes seconds to check once set up.

So that is a sfi case then? Kim

Powerglide yes. I cracked a stock case After all these years and caused a track cleanup so I thought it was time to do it. I now have three ATI cases and built a 1.69 low gear for my heads up car, a 1.98 which I just took out of my black Duster, and the 1.80 going in now. The bellhousing can be changed in about five minutes so if needed any transmission could go in any car.

Well I had a little setback. One of my studs ripped out of my powerglide mid plate so I called ATI and ordered a small block Mopar to powerglide bellhousing. It’s an update I’ve been wanting to do anyway. I ordered it directly from ATI and it will ship from Maryland tomorrow. They even beat Summits price on it.
