i was looking at craiglist for the york pa area and ran across this for sale, a 430hp 318 , phone for the person is 717 880 5786, it reads have spend about 4,000.00 will sale for 2,000.00, states is a 318 with 30 over, zero decked, with keith black flat top pistons, eagle rods, steel crank, balanced, hughes 541 roller cam, magnum heads arp bolts, he also states all work was professionally built by a local machine shop.what do you guys think??

Can the seller verify the claimed H.P. or is that just an estimate? I would also want to see receipts for parts and machine work.

Why do you need a 430HP 318? Racing? It doesn't sound like a very reliable street engine.

...and before everyone goes off on me, I'm not saying that there aren't 400+ hp 318's running around. All I'm saying is that there are far more reliable ways to pump out 430 hp, on the street. A big block, for example, and it does it without working hard, or being as finicky as a max pumped 318, and are not prone to catastrophic failure like an engine that needs to run on the edge to make that kind of power.

If you're a small block guy, 360's can make 400+ HP pretty inexpensively, and more reliably, too.

I love how the experts come out with no pictures or anything. Entirely possible and even possible that it's streetable with a roller cam. Any of yall naysayers seen the flow numbers on the heads? I didn't think so.

Rob, I didn't say it wasn't "streetable". I said the same power can be had without have the engine work as hard. You know yourself, reliability depends on the stress an engine is under.
Building a 400+ HP 383 or 400 for example, costs less, is not as strenuous on the engine parts, is essentially a stock engine with bolt ons, and is ultra reliable in daily use.
Personally, I ran a 400+ HO 400ci in a 73 dodge van for well over 200,000 miles, with no (zero) repairs to the engine, outside of regular maintenance. sold it to by a 76 dodge B200, and the buyer put another 100K miles on it without a problem. Reliability.

Yes, 430hp is possible from a 318, but why?

Same reason to heat up a slant, I reckon. To be different.
