I'm trying to find out what is the difference between 48 and 59 degree blocks and heads are. From what I gather the 48 gives better geometry by having the pushrods closer toward the middle of the motor right? If so then what's the diff. between say W2 48 heads and regular W2 59? There is no difference in intakes that I know of so the heads have to have the same intake face placement. The rocker stands or pedestals have to be in the same place right or is the rocker arms between the two heads different length? Thanks in advice for the help.

The difference is in the lifter angle. The angle straightens out the push rod. This will change exactly how it goes up on angle. The rod will be placed in a slightly different manor.

The heads have clearances for the changed pushrod angle. They'll use the same rocker arms IIRC, there all the same. The pushrod length should be checked. It think thats the big IT on them.

Then if that is it I'll give the r3 48 block a try with my commandos. The jesel rockers I have will let me move them just about everywhere and I'll just mill out enough clearance. Plus 48 blocks are easier to find and cheaper. Thanks for the help.

Now hold on there a sec. The stock block is 59 right. Your saying you can find 48* race block easier? WOW! I'm movin close to you.

I do believe thats it with the head and block issue. But you do realize that the cam has to be ground for the new tappet angle, right?

Do some checking around on other details. Please be advised I did say,
"I think" Thats it on the it. I'm not 100% on it. But I do believe thats it.

I understand. When I move up to an R3 block I plain on having another cam made like the last one. Still having a hard time finding a core with the 4&7 lobes swapped but I'm hopeful. And yes from my looking 48 are more plentiful then 59 R3 blocks and cheaper. The new aftermarket blocks that are not made or actually sold by MP/direct connection are still about a year away.

Follow these links and some good reading on the R3 blocks, head setups etc.

big bucks me thinks!

I was going to go this route, but I could not get any type of exhaust to fot the heads I wanted to run in the 64 Dart.

Take a look at his site, he has a lot of very good info on the heads types, configurations etc. As far as power goes I know several folks that have had them do head work and it has been very good.

Also BJR is very good and I am sure knows a lot about this stuff too!

Yes ryan is the man on smallblocks without a doubt. I've talked to him before but I like to have my ducks in a row before I call a place of business. Thanks for the reply.
