I have a 340 with a 4 speed and only have 5 bolts that line up in the flywheel to the crankshaft, the 6 th hole will not line up but the new crankshaft has a threaded hole for the 6 th bolt. Do I need 6 or will 5 work.
5 or 6 bolts flywheel to crank?

Did it line up before? The only time I ran into this is when trying to swap /6 and small block parts.
I'd try to find out which part is wrong first and I wouldn't attach a flywheel with 5 bolts, see if you can scratch up a v8 flexplate and compare it to the crank and flywheel to see whats going on.

No the crank that broke only had 5 bolts when I took it apart. The motor and trans were not the origional to the car and in the car so long I dont remember. The machine shop called to ask if they should balance with the 5 bolts and I thought I get some help so I dont have another problem.
