i am slowly working to making my 68 dart a pro touring beast with a SL6. it will have the tubular front k and and 8.75 with 3.91's in the back...

has anybody heard or done a manual 5 or 6 speed swap? or just a tranny that will bolt to the slant 4 speed bell?

thx

There was a run of T5 Adaptor plates made a few years ago. Lou (Dart 270) on slantsix.org has put in a OD auto trans. As far as actual bolt up to slant NONE.
Gear Vendors has a unit but its pricey.

And only .78 reduction. Not really worth it unless you find one cheap/used, IMHO.

The T-5 swap is the best option to me, if you have the ability to fabricate a lower crossmember and don't mind cutting on the floor and upper crossmember. Several tranny/overdrive options, new or used. I've got one of the bellhousings, but haven't gotten around to using it yet.

I'm looking into doing a T5 swap for my /6. I hope we can all figure this out.

Anyways, probably have to make some adapter to bolt it to the /6 bellhousing or possibly(?) redrill it to bolt in a T5. What do you guys know about just getting the thing bolted up?

I'd jump over to slantsix.org, do a search for T-5 or T5, and start reading. There's a TON of info over there about the swap, but it takes a little digging to find it.

You could always post in the "Parts Wanted" section on .org to see if anyone who was part of the group buy would be willing to part with their bellhousing and pilot bearing adapter.

Thanks for the suggestion on checking out slantsix.org as I didn't even know there was such a site. (kind of new to /6's) Cool site but finding the info on the conversions has been a crap shoot so far. All I have found so far is just little pieces here and there with no concise overall plan on what needs to be done. I'll keep reading and searching.

I know. Lou Madsen (Dart270) has been working on a complete article for the swap for the last few years, and I've pestered him as much as I feel comfortable without ticking him off. I hope to meet him at the big national slant gathering in Kearney, NE this August, where I'd feel more comfortable hassling him in person. ;)

The hardest part, to me at least, is fabricating a crossmember. You need to know how to weld, or know a buddy who can do it for you. Personally, I'd feel a lot better with a template to work from. Maybe someday...

Like most major mods on a slant, it ain't easy. It takes a lot of research, patience, and tenacity. slantsix.org is your best ally. Whether it's all worth it or not is up to you.

I have no problem with fabrication as I have welding ability. I'm just worried about the input shaft length problem and getting the shifter in a good location.

Anyways, no matter what this is what I'm going to do with my slant. I'm going to turn it into my daily driver/cross country car and want to try and get her up to 30mpg. An OD is one of the many steps it is going to take to attempt to reach my goal.
