I'm trying to find my old 1970 Dart Swinger 340. Per the fender tag it was FE5 red top & bottom, black bench interior, and had a 3spd stick. At the time of sale in 94 down in SoCal it had a 4spd, buckets, and wing added. Went to a guy who was a T shirt vendor at the Pomona Swap Meet. License plate was CA 1LIZ685
$500 finders fee for information leading to the purchase of my Dart. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Possibly still in Southern California. PM me or get my email from my profile.

Trying to find the VIN. Theres enough details on the car that I could probably determine if it was mine. It was very low optioned.

It had an Ebody pistol grip in it too.

As much as these cars are modified and painted over the years it could look totally different today. As stated above the VIN would be a great help if you could find it.

if you got the vin # couldn't you go to the dept. of licensing and pay them to look it up?

it was in the movie gone in 60 seconds. its gotta be true. lol.

I found the fender tag decode sheet I made, unfortunately no VIN. But it really has no options and the SPD was B06 (Nov6th)

the car could be crushed or could be panther pink with a 426 hemi under the hood now, with out a vin number you probably wont ever find it again...

You can try looking it up by the plate number won't cost much and they will give you a Vin even if they have different plates you will have a Vin to search and find it from the DMV

Here in Oklahoma any vehicle that the registeration has elapsed for five years is dropped out of the system. It is also out of the system once a title is transferred to another state.

I looked for my old challenger for a couple years. I saw an avatar with a 73 tb3 chally and sent the guy a pm with a basic description of some unique features that car had. Guess what - it was the car. So it is possible, good luck with your search!

If you are still with the same insurance company. Call them and ask them to look back in their records from what ever year you owned the car.

Great ideas. I keep rummaging through any old stuff I have trying to find the VIN. At the time I sold it I was pretty upset and didn't have the foresight to keep info about it.

you said you made a copy of the the fender tag? the vin is on the fender tag.
LM23 H0R xxxxxx or did you just not write that down, If so UGH!

California DMV will no longer release owner information or any other information about a car from just a VIN because of privacy issues. The only things that you can find out about a car from the VIN here is if its been flagged as "stolen", and if its currently in the system. At least if you're just a private citizen (not law enforcement, licensed dealer, etc...)

Again, only in California for sure, but almost 20 years ago California DMV went to computer stored records. Before then, if a car was unregistered for 7 years it dropped out of the system. That is no longer true. If it was put in the computer, its still there, regardless of its registration status. I know this because I purchased a one of my cars with only a bill of sale as it was "out of the system", last registered over 10 years before I bought it. On trying to get the title, SURPRISE, its still in the system. That's also how I know what information they'll release to you, as that particular car's last owner on file was not the same person that sold it to me. Despite having the information right in front of them, the DMV would not release to me the name of the owner, even though I had possession of the car. I then had to send paperwork requesting that info to the records office of the DMV, which rejected my request for the information about 2 weeks later. Nice huh? I had the car, and they wouldn't tell me who rightfully owned it.

Yeah, the DMV is a screwed up place. But I did eventually get my title...
