It is a nice build however the 466 cube deal I did in 2013 made 20lbs less torque and almost as much power with less cam, less compression and a 4150 carb. Still though I have heard of 900+HP with the Victor style head--would love to test one at that power level. J.Rob
So right. We sometimes are in awe of things happening now and forget what others may have done 10 years in the past.
The Victor head? Back in 2011 we took them to the dyno on the 500" engine. Because we were running somewhere around 14:1 compression for the first time, we thought we'd try E85. The single 1090 King Demon wasn't all that happy feeding the E85 to the 440 Source stroker kit and the first pull that morning was 680 HP.
I looked at the dyno screen and declared the engine to to big a
'Big POS'.
The dyno operator was stunned, "Man 680 hp is great for a 500" engine. What were you expecting?"
"Aah......800", we say.
"You're not going to tune another 120 horsepower out of that engine," he says.
Just before lunch the dyno readout was 760 horsepower. The operator's eyes were opening up a bit.
As we ran out of time the final readout of the day was 845 horsepower......from a single 4-bbl 500" engine.
So the dyno operator was correct we didn't tune another 120 horsepower out of the engine....it was 165 additional horsepower.
The dyno operator wasn't all that shocked when we came back and made 740+ horsepower with the same short block and 906 heads running on 91 octane pump gas.
