Hello All,

I didn't find this issue in a search, so I'm feeling 'special' with my oil pan gasket issue.

The front and rear rubber seals fit only one way. The cork side gaskets don't seam to meet the front and rear rubber sections properly.
Putting the cork under the rubber end wing leaves a gap under the rubber wing like this at the front;

And this at the rear;

The cork gasket doesn't line up with the edge of the rear main seal carrier;

Or the front timing chain cover. If I back up the cork gasket, the pan bolt holes don't line up;

Nothing in the directions said to trim any material to fit, and I can't imagine piling in enough gasket goop to fill this big a hole.

What's up?

Okee do kee. That seams like a lot of material stacking up next to the rear main seal housing to squish down. Rubber tab, rubber wedge, cork gasket... That's why it made sense when my brother said, "These rubber wings sticking out from under the cap must need to be trimmed off." (Pic #3 above)

I had read about, and applied staggering the rubber seal halves to offset the seam where the cap meets the block.

Looks like I'm ordering another rear main kit to replace the cut off wings :BangHead: and stacking the cork side rail gaskets on top of the front and back rubber wedges.

Follow the oil pan seal directions on the site. I just rebuilt mine and thought it was alot of stacking but no leaks.Make sure you glue the wings down and let them set. I was impatient and once i started snugging down the oil pan the wings slipped out the back and i had to start over.

Will do. I have contact cement on the shelf and ordering another rear main kit to replace the rubber 'L' wings I cut off.

Well that's it. I stacked the rear oil pan rubber seal, on top of the cork side rail gasket, on top of the rubber L wing on top of the contact cement, with a dab of black RTV as per the Fel-Pro instructions. Incrementally torqued to spec and got some squeeze out of the cork side rail gasket at the side of the rear main stack of stuff.

It's a weird way to seal a pan to me but hey, I'm new! :realcrazy:
