How wide of a wheel and tire combo can you get on the rear of a 63-66 Dart? (stock)

I'd say not to much without mods....

I put 225/70-15's on my 66 on 7" wide wheels with 4" backspace. About a 1" clearance both inside and out. I think you could use a 8" wheel with the right offset and just the right tire without rubbing. Most have to trim or roll the fender lip to prevent cutting a tire. tmm

If it is a wagon you can fit a 275/60/15. It is tight.

I'm running 265 70 14 on my 64 Dart 8 3/4 rear end

On my 66 dart P245/60R14 on the rear. 6 1/2 inch wheel with a 4 1/2 back space. Same wheels on the front, just clears the upper control arm. different sized tires on the front. Less then a finger clearance on both sides rear, and about 3/4 from the rear springs. No modifications. Wont get a bigger 14 inch tire in there without modifying :burnout:MT

Looks like extra room. How do you like your RADIAL T/A's.

Picture of the front clearance. MT:burnout:

Scarebird disc brake modded. Stops well.

To get a bigger/wider tire under there I would have had to get a wheel with more backspace, then they would not have fit on the front. I had these wheels made with the 4 inch pattern and no way I was going to pay to make another set with more backspace. But considering I dont think you can get a wider 14 inch tire, too me no reason to get more backspacig. And I was commited to the 14 inch rubber. BFG grab well on the street. they ride good, no complaints. NO strip driving, not a race car, But no slouch either. :burnout:MT

I got a 15"x8" 275 r 60's moved my springs in 3/4".

I had a 245/60/14 on my 65 with a 7 1/4 switched to 8 3/4 and they actually fit better

No changes except a 8 1/4 rearend out of a 73. They just fit. Have to raise body with bumper to slide them in the fender lip

the lager tires are on the car now. replaced the 14's shown on the right. Both are 14 inch tires.

I never checked. I bought them used on rims and put them on and they fit. Ill check latter.

I always find these questions interesting. There is 5" from the front of the brake flange to the spring. How can you have a rim with 4" of back spacing and still have 1" of clearance from the spring to the tire?

The biggest rim/tire combination on a '65 Dart is 15x7 with 3.5" of back spacing. This is a factory steel 15x7 rim from a Cordoba. The biggest tire is p235x60. This combination centers the tire within the wheel well with about 1/2" clearance between the springs and fender lips.

If you are going to use this combination, I would replace the rubber bushings with poly to limit axle movement to a minimum.

I don't see how anything bigger would fit without moving the springs.

The rim width and offset are important but the last measurement in the equation is the tire size. Here's a refresher of what I run:

I put 225/70-15's on my 66 on 7" wide wheels with 4" backspace. About a 1" clearance both inside and out. I think you could use a 8" wheel with the right offset and just the right tire without rubbing. Most have to trim or roll the fender lip to prevent cutting a tire. tmm
It's what ever works. Here's a handy chart: http://www.team3wheels.com/tech_specs_tire_chart.html

My tires are less then 1 inch from the springs and less then 1/4 inch from the fenders. they fit better after I did the 8 3/4 swap. Standard length a body 8 3/4
