65 Barracuda.....clutch pedal WAY too high.

Hi all,

I recently got a 65 Formula S. Completely standard.

are there any quick explanations as to why my clutch pedal sits so damn high ?

It works, the brake pedal also works, but it sits way up in the air. The rod is roughly 12 1/2 inches long. It does take a LONG way out for the clutch to engage, and I'm about to wind it in a bit to see if it makes a difference......

Looks to me like someone may have changed the Brake Rod (longer?)
Brake seems Low/ Clutch seems to be normal...
But, Yeah Absolutely, You should play around with it and get it where you want it.

Maybe it's just me, but the brake pedal looks way low rather than the clutch pedal being high...
 
Looks just fine to me. Exactly how I like it. Just have to move your toe from gas pedal to brake pedal and the clutch pedal up where you'll never leave your foot resting on it!
 
Brake pedal is way too low, it should be up about where the clutch pedal is. my bet is the pedal will bottom out on the floor before the master cyl bottoms. might not be an issue under normal driving but assuming you have a dual master you need the extra travel to activate the still live cir in the brake system.

You can see where the pedal has been hitting the carpet for a long time (clutch too)

did someone do a single to dual swap? might have used the wrong pushrod

It's got me stumped. The brake pedal is resting on it's stop point ' on the switch, so you' think that's where it's mean to be. It's a single master cylinder with booster and vacuum.

I'm not sure what adjustment I could make. This is the first LHD manual car I've had. I can only compare it to other A body Australian Valiants I've had, and the brake and clutch pedals on those are pretty much in line with each other.
I haven't actually driven this car for any distance yet.....all I know is that it does go in gear and move, and the brakes also appear to work.

When you see witness marks from the brake pedal on the carpet it tells you the brake pedal is way too low.

The clutch pedal arm to bellcrank rod I have is 11.75" center to center, & ~12&7/8" OAL.
Take pics of the brake rod & lamp switch/bracket, the pedal arm should NEVER touch the carpet, during normal operation.
 
:steering:The clutch pedal seems fine if you have the proper play, but that brake pedal is looking more like an accident ready to happen. 2 cents
 
Your clutch pedal may be a bit high if your bump stop for that pedal arm (rubber plug) has been pounded out due to use. Check, it can be replaced.
 
Your pedals look pretty normal. Any manual car I’ve had has a lot lower brake pedal. That so when u take your foot off the gas pedal u can just slide your foot over to easily apply the brakes. Kim

That's the way it was taught in drivers ed in the 60's. The way it was explained made sense to me. It requires you to remove your foot from the gas pedal when braking . Boils down to reaction time but to each his own.
 
Mine are pretty even. Stock Borg and Beck clutch and single pot manual brakes.
