I am working on a 65 coronet with a 440 auto, runs ok till u turn on the Headlights car will stall :protest: so when u try to start the car after it stalls it won't turn over with the key ? But u can jump the starter relay and it wind over with the key on but won't start ?? After about five mins the car will start with the key !!! So with keepin ur foot on the gas and you pull on the headlights the car will run but very rough !! I'm at a loss not sure where to start on this any one have any ideas. Thanks mike

First question is, "do ya have a shop manual?"

This is most probably in the first main part of the power distribution, fuse link, bulkhead connector, ammeter, etc.

65 Plymouth, "close enough"

Also from MyMopar are non-factory, somewhat simplified wiring diagrams. Sometimes, these are easier to follow, but in newer optioned cars, sometimes incomplete

Also read this article, which may or may not apply directly, but the diagram on that page has a nice simplified diagram which shows primary power distro

Now I haven't worked on one of these girls for at least 45 years!!! So I'm not sure. Below is a screenshot of the bulkhead connector out of the shop manual. You MAY have the solid feed through ammeter connections through the bulkhead, so these "should not" be an issue, but I'd sure check 'em. The ammeter connections are the ones dead center in the diagram, marked "R6" and "A1"

Correct. All 1965 cars had the same bulkhead connector, with the big "bus bar" feed-thrus for the thick ALT (A1) and BATT+ (R6) wires. That is why I put one from a 65 Fury in my 64 Valiant (enlarged cut-out 1/8"). C-bodies had an additional bulkhead feed-thru (4-pin, I recall), forgot what for (wipers?). Don't know if B-bodies did.

Most likely you have a disconnect in the IGN feed, plus the headlamp circuit is touching the IGN circuit. Often things like that happen from melted terminals in the bulkhead connector, but could be in the fuse box too. The fused (semi-welded) ACC junction in the under-dash harness is also a corrosion concern, Don't recall if C-bodies have that, but probably do.

Make sure your engine to body ground and BAT negative to body grounds are in good shape.

found problem turns out loose wires at the amp gauge in the dash was the issue
thanks for all the help mike

Very good thanks for posting the results. "In my yut" LOL I once had a 426 Dodge 440. Damn do I wish I had that back, along with my 70 V code RR

Here we are at NAS Miramar, at our RADAR shop out towards the far end of 24R. Shop is not there anymore, this is about 72 or so. We had permission to work on our rigs out there

From left is some kids shaker hood 'Cuda, don't remember his name. He did not work with us. Poncho Ventura belonging to one of our ETs, rear of my black 64, friend of mine's 68 RR, and my limelight 70 RR
