Hello!

I'm about to dig into a 4spd OD swap for my '65 Dart (2dr 270, slant 6). I've got the tranny, bellhousing, shifter and fiberglass shift hump from Brewer's.

1). What's the best way to locate the shift hump? I was going to place it on the floor where it fit best and outline it with a sharpie to give me a point of reference. After that, I was going to install the transmission without the shifter, then drill a few small holes through the floor at what I though were critical clearance points, connect the points, and cut the hole. Good? Bad? Any better ways for doing it?

2) How should the hump be mounted to the floor? Drill it and use sheet metal screws with washers and caulk for sealant? Or use fiberglass cloth and resin to permanently mount it on the floor, or ?.

I've done tranny swaps/upgrades before, but not on a Dart, and I'd rather draw on the Hive mind here than make mistakes and have to fix them.

Thanks in advance....

Chris

the hump layout is pretty self explanatory. it kinda just sits where it's supposed to.

you don't need to gack up the floor a massive amount, it's only the two cuts one ahead of and one behind the x-member.

i used panel bond and tech screws, so it's on there. it could come off if necessary, but i didn't see the need to take it any further than it is.

i'll see if i can find some pics of teh install/floor cut...

Factory holes in my 66 they don’t need to be that big

This is exactly what I did in my 73 Dart I did a conversion on... I did, however, cut inside of the scribed line so that I had some material to weld the new tunnel on. I hope this made sense.

Get the transmission in the car, along with the shifter mounting bracket. Once these are in, start with about a 3" hole based on the center line of the shifter. Once you have the initial hole, start trimming in small increments checking the shifter operation, as well as the placement for the shifter hump. Slow and steady makes for a neater and better installation.

Install the transmission and shifter then center the hole around the shifter in neutral, then it becomes self evident. I'd seal it with fiberglass and rivets.

How should the hump be mounted to the floor?
I plan this conversion on my Dart. I am going to use nutcerts so I can take it back off, and use putty to seal up the edges before putting the carpet back down.

You can open the door, stand back and throw the hump in the car and it might just land in the right spot. It's really THAT easy to locate.
