Ya right. I would have to see the fender tag and build sheet to confirm. Yes the 8 3/4 I could believe but the 727 I don't.

There is another in Montana on FB Marketplace claiming to have original 8.75 also. It's a 4 speed though.
 
My '65 Formula S has an 8 3/4 but it is a "489" case version.

I parted out a late 65 Dart GT with a 273/235 4 speed and a 741 case 3.23 open 8.75. The only option on this Dart was factory AC!
 
Are you saying it was an 8 3/4 swap or factory installed (or who knows)?

as far as I could tell all the running gear was original. The body was shot but I bought it for the motor, transmission and rear end
 
I could see an 8 3/4 in 65 but not a 727 in an early A. My 66 Formula S had 3.23 sure grip 7 1/4. Was working fine after 100K when I swapped it out for an 8 3/4.

IIRC (and I might not since it was 15 plus years ago) the date code on the pumpkin was Mid June 65. The build date of the car was 7/23 - a real late build car. Still have the fender tag.
 
I had to pound up my floor and fold over the lip to get a 727 in my car.
 
727 never happened in an early -a on assembly line. Conflicting reports on 8 3/4 ‘s being installed on very late 1965 production models especially 4 speed cars.
What is clear is these cars were readily being sent back to dealer for a damaged 7 1/4 under warranty. Sure many were actually replaced with an 8 3/4 by dealer. As far as 727 highly unlikely even dealer would replace a 904 with one but this was mid 1960’s and anything was possible at dealership.

My 66 273 2v 4 speed barracuda came with an 8 3/4, 3.23 suregrip.
 
Due to the large number of warranty claims Dodge and Plymouth started installing 8.75 rears under warranty for the 4 speed cars. NHRA authorized the 8.75 for the Plymouth’s and Dodges running stock eliminator about the same time. Not sure when the 8.75 could be ordered with the bigger rear.
 
Factory AMA specs list a 8 3/4 as optional for the 65 models. (Valiant/Barracuda as example) Dated 7/10/64 and revised 3/29/65

8 3/4 yeah. 727. No.
Doesn't say but because of the size of the 727 and the lack of space in the tunnel for it I would say no. I did find the cam specs for the 2 and 4 barrel 273's. and a service bulletin changing HP273 spark plugs from N9y to N10Y's sometime in 1966. Learn something new every day.
 
my 65 'S' had a stock 7 1/4 3.23 SG. Took a 340 and 10 wide tires to blow it.
 
Yeah they are good rearend.
It’s like little dick syndrome...everyone wants it bigger, makes no difference without the proper thrust...
