Not an A body, but I need your guys' opinions on what this 65 W300 (1 1/4 ton) Power Wagon is worth.

It is a 318 4 speed 4x4, sitting on 40" bias ply army tires with 20" rims. New: 2 bbl carb, fuel pump, starter, master brake cylinder, master clutch cylinder, battery. It WAS a long box, but he cut the frame down, and made it a short box. The frame itself is rust free though.
The tail gate is rusted through, the box has a few rust patches in the bed, there is bubbling under the paint on the box, the cab floors are shot, the front cab mounts are non existant.
The tail lights and headlights aren't working, but there is brake lights and turn signals. All gauges work. The engine itself fires up and runs great, no smoking, no knocking, etc. Has a fuel leak going into the fuel pump, claimed the threaded fitting didn't sit in properly.
It's got some old hand crank winch on it.
Dana 70 front and Dana 60 rear, with 4.88 gears.
When you get up to 40MPH, the front end shakes bad, back and forth, but he hasn't tried getting past the wobble at a higher speed, said he was too nervous to. He thinks it is because the drag link, being a solid bar, needs a shock fabricated onto it, to absorb that wobble, but I believe it could also be the bias plys being out of balance, or a loose part somewhere like tie rod end, etc.

Now.. he wants $4000 for the truck alone, and said he won't go any lower, but that sounds like quite a bit too much for me, correct me if I'm wrong though.

He also has, for $1500 more..

- 1 W300 rolling frame with a work box that dumps like a dump truck.
- 1 W300 rolling frame with a dead 318 auto, a ratty flat deck, but a totally mint cab. Underside is totally rust free, cab mounts are good, floors are perfect, etc.
*Both rolling frames had Dana 60's and Dana 70's*
- 67 383 auto (said it was running when pulled, but thats his word against mine).
- 4 grills, all for different years of Sweptlines
- Power wagon original bumper with built in winch
- All kinds of drum brake parts, extra drums, shoes, etc.
- Extra set of HD leaf springs
- Inner fenders, random body parts, etc.

Claims he lost his job, and that the wife just wants the stuff out of the driveway, so.. said he would sell me the running truck for $4000 and would let me take the other stuff away, and when I got the extra $1500 I could pay him that at a later date.

I really don't think the truck itself is a $4000 buy, and can't see myself paying $5500 for all 3.. that just seems a bit steep for me. Am I wrong here though?

Please give me your input, and no stealing it up from under my feet ;)

Oh, the only pictures right now are from Craigslist ad, as I can't seem to upload them from my phone.

Nope your not wrong. Offer him $4000 for all and when he says no just walk away.Sounds to me like the truck is pretty rough.

That's what my plan was. I was going to offer $4K for it all, and say I can have it removed from his driveway within a week. That way his wife will be happy its out of the driveway, and he will have some money since he is out of a job.
I asked how many people had come to look, and he said none yet, and it's been listed for a month, so I know he can't say 'Well, this other guy will buy it' .

I agree, I would almost be inclined to offer between $3-4k for all of it, if he says no, give him your number. I betcha he calls you back and them see what he would go for. $$$ is really tight, and its not like its a muscle car thats gonna go right away. I love the truck though!! There was a similar one here on fabo somewhere in the states. Running driving, 318 I believe for $1800.

Ps Mike pm me your address and i will get the triple gauges from 340johns auction out to you.

If you see the ad, could you send it to me through PM? Thanks.

And oh shoot, I forgot about that! I still have to send a MO out for the parts, but I will get right on that. PM sent with my address as well. Thanks Steve.

I've had many of those trucks over the years. It looks to me to be a WM series truck. W being civilian cab, M being military frame ( straight like a ladder,no arches to frame at suspension) Other ex-military items used with those frames are divorced mount t-cases, pto driven winch and industrial versions off engines . Low compression to idle all day and reverse flow water cooling. Water goes from cylinder heads to rad. Commonly seen in dump trucks of that era.Original front diff should have dana 70 with pucks instead of outer u-joints. Mine was a WM375 with duallys. Toughest truck around the local river hole here for years. Had a 20 ton tulsa pto winch. 361 industrial w/ 5 speed. Retired it (sold) due to yearly brake jobs required. Very poor brakes. 13 x 1.75 shoes. Get all the extra parts cause you will need them. As evident by his collecting them.

Awesome information, thank you for that.

Your opinion on what its worth?

I would say it sounds a little steep to me, but the $1500 pile sounds like a good deal. I have a 69 w300 a 70 D300 and a standard 100 series half ton, and I have watched ebay and they got $2000 for a W300 with a tree growing up through it. They do bring good money. The $1800 dollar one on here is a standard sweptline. Totally different toy and not quite as valuable by what I have seen. But then it depends on what you want. And as a disclaimer...... I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination.

It's all about the frame on that truck, other wise a normal truck. Regular 318 and NP4500 4speed plentyful and easy to put in front of a divioce mount t-case. Just how much frame did he cut off? Could have had an 8 ft box and i've seen 11ft as my WM375 was. 4000 is top dollar for an unrestored truck that you must still change cab /paint etc.Exspense mud bogger for sure. 3000 for it all not 5500 is what i'd offer. remember you still have to move/tow parts trucks

Well, I bought it. I paid $2500 for the truck, and $1500 for the other 2, along with 2 truckloads of parts. Little did I know, the parts truck with the good cab also comes with a full mint front clip, and a flat deck that I could easily sell for $1500 or higher.

Going to start hauling things home tomorrow, I will post pics when I have everything.

Well, I brought home one of the parts trucks yesterday. It's a W300 rolling frame. Dana 60 rear with Dana 70 front, steering box, and has a dumping loggers box on the back, still including the hydrolic pump. Inside the box is 4 grills for these things, from different years, extra rims, 3 winches with Power Wagon bumpers, drivers seat, miscellanious sheet metal for the truck, tow cables, ropes, etc.

If all goes well I'll be driving the one in the ad home later today, and either hauling the 'good cab' one home tonight, or wednesday.

I'll get pics of it all when its all said and done.

Good score, Mike.

I saw that truck on Craigslist last week, but the short box part stopped me from looking any farther. Didn't realize he had all that other stuff, now that's a good deal.

Look forward to more pics.

All right! Put a winch bumper on both ends. 1 pto on the trans to front, 1 pto on t-case to rear. Waiting for the pics.

Well, had a hell of a time trying to unload the 2nd parts truck. Got it home around 9 pm, didn't actually get it off the trailer until 12:30 am... Apparently the brakes seized, and we were unloading it into a field, so nothing to hook a chain to, to try and pull it off the trailer. Anyways, finally got it off after using a 'come along' for a while. I would have used the Power Wagon, but buddy forgot to mention the headlights dont work.

The thing is a beast. I drove it home, about an hour drive. Pulled into a gas station, go in to pay, some girls walk in behind me.. 'Is that your truck? That thing is %(!&$&# sexy!' .. Alright!! Haha anyways. Got it home just before dark, took some pics.
Notice the red Ford truck to the right. It's a Ford F350 crew cab. Take that into perspective when comparing sizes of the two trucks.
I'll take more pics of everything I got in a couple days.
