67-69 Barracuda differences

-
wel after all said and done, i think my personal favorite is a 68 Formula S and thatll probably be what i search for when the time comes...course that wnt happen for a olong time. i 1st have to finish my dart (only had it since september and theres plenty of work ahead) then im gonna do a minor resto on my uncles 73 charger(minor body, paint....thats bout it!)

after the charger ill try an return to abodies w./ a 68 Barracuda formula S or an E-body 'cuda...not sure....either way itll be fun!

My Barracuda came with a 283 and it was factory.

Boy those crazy mopar guys sure did some crazy things back in the day.
Hi guys I realize I’m 10 years late but I figured I’d give it a try anyway. I just recently bought a 68 Barracuda notchback and I’m working on bringing it back to life.

I skimmed through most of the posts and I don’t think I saw anything about the dashboards and/or dash bezels being interchangeable.
Does anyone know for a fact if you can take a whole dashboard from a 67 or a 69 and put it in a 68 Barracuda? My dashboard has several holes in it and will need to be either restored or replaced completely. My dash bezel comes with a thumb wheel stereo and has AC so I’m missing the levers that go in the AC controls. I’ll upload pictures so you guys see what I’m talking about.

Anyway if anyone knows if the dashboards would mount on without a problem between 67-69 that would be great.

69 would be a better match for your 68. And there are very slight differences for all 3 years. Most noticeably is the thumb wheel radio. 68/9. 67 was round knob.
That steering wheel appears to be 67 style? Where is your vin located? On door pillar or dash?

It’s on the dash.
I’ve confirmed it’s a 68

I’m still working on the mechanical stuff... it was sold to me with a 340 but I’ve had my fair share of issues. So I’m just looking up dash bezels and the full dashboard. Most bezel/dashboard restoration places charge an arm and a leg to restore them. So if I can look for an original off a 69 that would work better.

Ten year old thread. back from the dead.

Do a search on here, I know there are very subtle differences between 68 and 9.
I believe it is in the steel frame and how the instrument bezel mounts to it.
Welcome aboard, have fun.
@RedFish is very knowledgable with this.

Yup, lots of subtle differences. The gauges pretty much interchange. The faceplate is different in '67 due to the radio. The inner structure is different all three years as is the wiring harnesses, and dash pads. '68 has a unique ashtray, steering column trim, and lower pad setup. I'd recommend sticking with '68 stuff as much as possible. Things will fit better that way. It'll make the car more valuable that way too.

Thanks I appreciate all your responses. The plan is to keep it all as original as possible. It’s hard to find original parts that are in good shape and with each year having enough differences, only makes it harder. I’ll do some research on bezel restoration places as well as dash restoration and I’ll make a decision. All info is appreciated. I’ll attach a pic of the car as well.

You are missing the upper dash pad. Two studs go through the lower holes you show for nuts on the backside.

Take a pic of entire dash. 68 is 1 year only 3 pc dash pad. 1 pc across entire top. And 2 pics on bottom.
@RAT ROD AL hàs a spare dash I believe and a great guy to deal with.
Very nice car!!!

I have another question to this back from the dead thread.

On both ends of the my dashboard where the top part joins the bottom piece there’s a hole, I’m not sure if there a piece missing or what? Let me add images. Hopefully someone can chime in

If I was going to get another Cuda it would be a 68. The grills and bezels are a bit easier to come by. The stainless still trim around front and rear window is better than the cheap plastic the 67 has.

Looks like it's missing the upper pad. You require the correct one so it fits into the lower pad correctly.
Also your inst bezel isnt bad, the end piece is broken off. That could be easily repaired with a donor piece. Post a want ad for both pieces, good luck.

Here’s a picture of the whole dashboard.

Thanks. I had NO IDEA there was a dash pad that went on top of the actual dashboard. Smh! Makes complete sense now. Yea the cluster isn’t bad, it’s broken at the end there before that glove box piece, but there a big hole missing by the fan control levers as well. I’m working out a deal for a dash bezel. Again, thanks for the advice! I may not know a lot about these cars but I’m learning a lot and I plan on making sure this car is as close to original as I can get it.

I believe the Upper pad has sort of a duck tail leading edge. For a 68. I don't have a pick handy. If I go out to the garage I can take one and post it up here.

Cant make out the hole you mention by blower switch?
