I've always liked the cube shaped 67-69 Darts, but have had more experience with the mid gen Barracudas, which were a bit lighter and maybe had more room for the rear tires.
My question is beside the obvious differences in looks, are there any important issues that make one of these Darts better than the other?

'68 forever baby forget the rest lol

actually they are all pretty similar... though on the later years you get places to hook shoulder harness type seat belts that's a +

i just like the tail lights and side markers for the '68 year.

thanks guys............I like the 67-69 looks better than the later ones as well, actually the 67 is probably the cleanest with no side markers. Surprised to see these cars are a bit longer than my last 72 Duster 340.

By how much longer? My preference would be 1967 or 1969's which I have.

it really is preference....I have a few from each generation and really the 1970 is the climax of coolness in my books because 70 had the most available color options and the only year a rally dash was available in a dart.

from an engineering standpoint the 72 is my favorite because the improvments Chrysler made to them for reliability and quality is quite a long list....of course that is assuming we are talking about a car in stock form.

My favorite really is the 70-2 generation.

Then on the other hand....big blocks were no longer an available thing after and the GTS disappeared after 69.

To a non-stock car it don't matter but to a correct or at best a correct appearing car it will matter.

the bottom line is preference as said

I think the Dart was about 2-4" longer than my mid gen Bcuda- I had the garage floor marked!

the book says:

a 68 dart is 111" wheel base and 196 inch overall length . The dart grew an inch to 197 inches overall after 70

a 68 barracuda is 108" wheelbase and 188.4 inch overall length

I alway thought all the same year "A" bodies had the same wheel base, I never knew the Barracuda had a shorter wheel base. Lots and lots of MOPAR stuff I don't know, Oh yea, not just MOPAR stuff life in general!!!

It appears that the Cuda may be a little lighter too, but thats just going by various books- we know options could make up much of the differential.

the 67-9 cuda has the same wheel base as the Plymouth duster and dodge demon/dart sport also known as "sport roof" cars

books calls a 1970 duster at 188.4 which is exactly that of the 68 barracuda and really when looking into the history of how the duster came to be....one could almost say that it was the A-body replacement for the barracuda since the barracuda name plate was lost to the new E-body in 70.

The duster was designed on a budget using mostly what was already in existence to cut tooling costs.

This was posted earlier and I know my DUSTER was a bit longer than the Bcuda- defintely:

yes the lengths were posted earlier and there are a number of online sources that collaborate these measurements.

the duster

the barracuda

http://www.oldride.com/library/1967_plymouth_barracuda.html

my source is "the standard catalog of Chrysler" by John Lee ISBN number 0-87341-142-0 which surprisingly matches the other info. The 67-69 barracuda and 1970 duster are the same overall length at 188.4 inches.

My '72 Duster was the one longer than the Bcuda, and it DIDNT have the funky bumper extension that Mopar used to satisfy the DHSafety in 73, so the original Duster of 70 and maybe 71 were the same as the Bcuda but they must have grown. GP

Both groups are OK by me. Besides the big blocks going bye-bye for the 1970 model year, so did the ragtop body style.

My Darts? 72 Demon and a 73 Custom mordor that I'm considering putting a 72 front clip onto it, cause I'm no fan of the big bumper.

A body Plymouths have always been shorter than the dodge. The E body 70' Cuda is shorter than the challenger. The full size Fury is shorter than the Dodge. Plymouths have always been shorter. The 56' Plymouth is 115 Inches wheel base, the dodge was 120 inches. Chrysler and Desoto 126 Inches.

I prefer the 71 and earlier as they are the "pre-emission"/high horsepower years.... :burnout:

Darts had different wheel base also

The convertible and hardtop were 111"

Post and 4 door 108"

Guess it comes down to preference

I like the 67-69 Dart the best out of all of them built with the 1969 being the very best, even though I have never owned on.

But as all these cars get older all of them are getting better looking to me. Guess next I. Line after the 67-69 Dartwould the 1962 which was a b body

I think if ya go back and study ma mopar, ya will find that the dodge was considered a more "upscale" model than the Plymouth, and giving the buyer that extra few inch well based justified its slightly higher price!???? LOL
for the last several decades,, the Mopar mags had a lot to do with what the average enthusiast craved...... then ya saw Mopar action do the "brick", story,,,, a nicely prepped early A car for road and track. and gradualy w saw more of the non-mainstream muscle cars, more of the slant duster made into a wild hemi car,mmm etc....
now we are in a point in time, when not everyone wants a high end restored 383 69 roadrunner, which the factory made like what 85,000 of that year, can't afford ( even with the down prices we've seen since 08), the 70-1 e body..... now tons of us find we like the 67-9 dart or the 70-2 swinger etc.. for e xample. used to be NOONE wants these cars... if it wasn't "deemed" a muscle car, few people cared unless they were building a drag car??????

I was originally into the 70-2 generation dart but the 68 really grew on me after I got mine as a Bday gift a few years ago and it turned out to be a good car....so now I will have to agree on the 68
