I replaced the the turn signal switch in my Barracuda with a new replacement from Year One. Part number FD47801
Now something is getting hot when the column is plugged into the car. The negative battery cable sparks when touching the battery post.

With the battery briefly connected the horn works but the turn signals do not. The lights come on and the engine turns over but I’m stumped.

The new switch has different color wires but I’m positive I have the wires were they belong as per there paperwork. I wonder if the Year One wire diagram is correct for a 67 or the switch is sketchy

Do you have your old switch?

You could trace out each wire to it's contact and compare to new switch

I don’t.
After thinking about it further, this is the first time I plugged in the column to the car. With the switch unplugged the battery cable still sparks. So something must be shorted as a result of plugging in the column.

Yeah, with the column unplugged, check each of the column wires for a ground short. Not unheard of.

Looks correct, the switch also provides power to the tail lights, look down stream. pull the tail light sockets
