I just picked up a 68 Barracuda Formula S car with title. It is missing the trim tag and the vin. I do however have the title and the numbers all match to the body.
Anyone out there with this Vin / body tag? Long Shot I know...

Did you transfer the car ownership to your name yet?

Not sure exactly how it works in your State but, here in Canada, it's illegal to remove the vin from the vehicle.

Plus, if I have the original dash with the original vin attached with the unmolested security rivets and I have the current registration, I own the car. The body numbers are essentially irrelevant.

A title search may be needed to verify the legal owner of the car you purchased.

There's very very few reasons why some one removes the original vin and fender tag.

Strange to see an automobile title with reference to a motorcycle engine number.

I hope the purchase was a smoking deal! If you can't find the orig vin tag, then won't u need a state issued one? Which if you ever decide to sell, red flags all over the place.
Good luck! Got any friends in DMV? They might have a list of prev owners?

Get the title in your name and have the Secretary of State Police come look at it. If everything checks out then they will issue a State VIN plate and attach it, at least that is how it works in Wisconsin where I had it done. As far as the fender tag, it is long gone and should not be reproduced because it will never be correct...

Car has not been transferred or titled. It has not been title since 2005 in Ca. The Vin is stamped in the trunk area and does match the vin on the title. My guess is that it was parted out .. Drivetrain and interior all gone. Legit S 340/4speed car. Just now a rolling shell.
As far as the title goes it has the watermarks and is state of CA. CA uses a title template that also includes motorcycles, but there are no numbers listed under the motorcycle reference. The body style is listed as a convertible. Doing more research on the car right now.

On a 68 the VIN is not anywhere on the car except the VIN tag. The number on the core support and trunk lip is the SO# which only appears on the fender tag...

I will be visiting the MVD in AZ to get it looked at. I think is
How do you know that it's a California title?
State of California in large lettering on the top of the title.. Also the watermarks are of the state Bear

Well if it's not a convertible that BH27 is wrong 27 = vert 23 = notch 29 = fastback

This is what was found in the trunk hidden under the weather-stripping. this car has never been repainted.
It is the sequence number P8B198220 The only part that isn't there is the preceding four digits BH27. I'm no expert but it doesn't look like it's been added by anyone other than the factory...

It's most definitely a convertible.. has the original 4 spd hump and frame and floor pans are almost completely rust free.. needs front floor pans though. Both rear quarters need replace but wheel wells are beautiful.

That's a shame that some douche sold/stole the vin. I would edit the title of this thread to include the entire vin # youre looking for. That way Google will pick up on it better.
Chk DMV with that vin to see ifnit is registered

Maybe I'm too far into the rum, but didn't 68 get production sequence numbers stamped into the body panels as opposed to partial VIN'S?

Actually, I do. and yes, IMHO, it was worth picking up. 1 of only 60 4spd 340 cars produced and probably much less that that have survived. If it turns out to be ...

I need to do more research on this one. I know there are other numbers in the body panels that match as well.. Car has not been chopped.. I'm sick that someone parted this thing out though.

I had same car but 69, 1 of like 25. Rare breeds for sure once u add vert and 4spd(thus my name).
Fingers crossed for ya.

I'm thinking the title is not legit or the State of California don't know there *** from a hole in the ground and issues a title with the numbers found on the body. The stamped numbers are the Shipping Order Number found on the Fender Tag and Broadcast Sheet, they DO NOT MATCH THE VIN! Here is another example of SO#'s on a 1968. The VIN tag is missing as well as the fender tag because the "VIN" numbers on the title are wrong...

You may be correct. I will get with MVD and get it checked out .

Food for thought, If the VIN tag is missing and the car was parted out somewhere in time, There MAY BE another car out there with the VIN tag and registered to some one already !
